Sure can be done, but really what I hear is range limitations as batteries run down and recharging times.

What I think is someday, we will have high efficiency afordable solar panels. sun hits earth about 1000 to 1300 watts per square meter.
There is a lot of work being done with solar. A new idea is nantenna solar panel which is 95% efficient.

All boats could be powered with small nuclear heat devices and thermocouples providing electric power today. Go 20 years between refueling.

fridge size would power small towns, I think suitcase sized could power large boat easily.
