Re: Help me patch floor

that low spot is the hull....the flat spot is a chunk of glassed wood....

once the wood is cut out....you will use a 4 inch angle grinder with a rubber backing pad and a 26 grit disc to remove the jagged fiberglass and gellcoat.
after the area is ground down...re post pics for us to see and acess the area...

it is possible that you will have to add a layer of glass...but doubt ful.

this is a link to some safety instructions for grinding and glassing

Re: Help me patch floor

I'm finally starting to understand. But how is the floor of the ski locker supported? Does it just sit on the hull, or is there some foam or support underneath it?

just sits there.....it is glassed in.....

look at the thread in my sig.....just cruise the pics for the first 16 pages that will show you a hull from the build up to the deck.

pay particular attention to glassing the under side of the deck and how to glass a wood surface.

cheers

Re: Help me patch floor

Well here are some pics after I've cut a little away, I need a sawzall and probably cut up some of the deck. Very wet foam underneath and a lot of water sitting. I assume the pipe is some sort of drainage. In one pic I show where I drilled into a stringer and wood appeared to be completely dry inside. But me being stupid I drilled through both sides, will I be able to just fill it with 5200, or will I have to get to the other side to fix it?

Where else should I check for wet wood? The ski locker bulkhead, should I try the transom as well? Also is there any trick to getting all of the wood of the ski locker floor cut out, there is very little room to work and I don't know where the floor ends and the hull begins.

Re: Help me patch floor

Should I use pressure treated exterior plywood or just exterior plywood? I bought some non pressure treated plywood, called construction grade exterior plywood. But if it's not good enough I will just use it for something else.

Re: Help me patch floor

I have most of the ski locker floor removed, except what is towards the bow. Very hard to reach and remove anything. Do I need to replace the ski locker floor, does it serve a purpose? Also if I have to replace the floor do I need to re-foam it? Help would be greatly appreciated, I'm kind of stuck.
