I may be getting this boat tomorrow in a trade. But I need help identifying it. Guy says its a 69. There is a badge on the side that says pmc but it's pretty beat to see the first word. I've Googled and been trying to search everywhere but I'm not coming up with anything with that lettering. He doesn't have really any paperwork. It was last registered in 2020 but not by him. If this is the wrong spot for this please lmk or delete.

That's awesome you can name the year for the engine because that's exactly what it is lol. He has paperwork on that. Lol. I saw that same brochure page when I was looking but that's like the only one that is even remotely close but the window is way different. Which I know that could have been changed. Just hard to tell with it being a brochure online than actual pics. Thank you for the reply

The 1967 100hp had 'Meteor' underneath Johnson. And in 1969, OMC brought out a totally different V4

He doesn't have really any paperwork. It was last registered in 2020 but not by him.
then legally he does not own it.

have the guy get the paperwork sorted out before you spend any money on the boat.

How do you figure that? What should I look for? I figured it would be like my 74 winner and that It's old enough that the boat doesn't need to be titled in the state. When I bought it I just had a bill of sale and the previous registration on it but that was it.

In my state....that would be title jumping which is highly frowned upon. Again in my state, depending on the DMV rep you got, they may/would turn you away to get the documented owner to sign over the boat....that's who's on the title/transferable registration.

So....does the person you're buying the boat/trailer from have both items in his/her name on the current documents? If not, he doesn't legally own the boat so he cannot sell it.

So the trailer is small enough it doesn't need to be registered. I totally understand the title jumping part of things. My question is if you got a boat that didn't run why would you register it? Also like I said it's old enough that it doesn't need to be titled in the state. I'm going to be calling the dmv today right when they open and asked them some questions. You all got me thinking. I appreciate the warning so to speak.

So he has no standing to sell/trade the boat until the paperwork is in place.

IF it were me, the current seller gets the paperwork in their name BEFORE I take delivery (so that I can legally register the boat/trailer) OR I walk away. I want that slip of paper that says I legally own it before I start dumping $$$($$) into something I don't own.

**In my state, couple of weeks to turn something like this around.

Looking at your pics, the logo looks like " AMC". There was a time that AMC was part of Brunswick corp and they did make boats. Just a thought.......

"My question is if you got a boat that didn't run why would you register it?"

Because that's the law.

Same applies to a car, operational or not.

He says "he has a bill of sale from previous registered owner".
Or did he steal it ?

if you have a proper bill of sale with the registered owners signature and date which he does how would it be stolen? also the hin number just came back clean. I just had the sheriffs office run it for me. Also here in my state you can not register a non running car, it has to pass emissions before the dmv will register it. now changing the title over is different than registering it. also with how old the boat is it doesnt need to be titled in my state. you can register it without getting it titled. im gonna talk to my dmv now while im on lunch to get some more clarification

When I bought my last boat, the boat was in the sellers name, however he kept his boat at the marina and the trailer was in bac, so he never registered the trailer. It took the seller almost a month to track down the prior two owners and get the trailer titled in both of their names to become the legal owner to sell me the boat and trailer.

talk to your local AHJ on registering it in your name

Ya I'm definitely going to be talking to someone. I'm super grateful for all the info everyone is giving me. I want this to go as smooth as possible. The laws just seem to be weird with the age and size. Like the trailer itself doesn't need to be registered because of the the number of axles and no trailer brakes. And unless it's an 84 or newer the boat doesn't need to be titled. But everyone here is agreeing to the same thing so I'm getting a little confused lol.

if the floor is soft, the transom and stringers long ago rotted away
