No spark. Should be the still original Man Overboard Switch. Friend towed me to the dock area. I rowed into the slip space. Plenty of old guys to have fun with as they helped me tie up. Wife took me out for lunch. I have finally mellowed. :)

More luck on the engine. It was the ignition timing generator. Spare was the last spare part for the 1986 engine.
Luck beats skill every time. :)

And now the saga continues. I push the throttle forward and it continues to just idle . The spring clip has disappeared from the flex cable connector at the motor. Have 2 spares.

Evinrude 1986 28 SPL. Really a 30 hp with no power tilt or trim.
I retired 20 years ago. It has run every morning and afternoon and some evenings. Weather permitting. May 21 to September 21.
I want it to be buried with me.

I have it's sister....you have the red headed step sister. Always abused but usually comes through. Mines seen the bottom of the ocean and still runs....minus wiring/starter issues.

When we get a sunny day again. I want to replace the main motor plug and socket. I inspected the metals. They are the split pin type .I can not see any pins that are not discolored. So I will go to the butt splices that do seal against moisture. Since I stay in very strong cellphone areas.
All the men where I stay drop what we are doing . When someone needs a tow home now.

I know I'm not on the Mercury forum but I'm trying to rebuild this carburetor for my neighbor. She lost her husband and her two outboards sat for 7 years and one of them started running and then didn't. This one particular screw has an opening on the back side which allowed it to get stuck and it's screwing up my whole day!

In 86 few if any 30hp engines had Power Tilt, though it was offered as a Dealer installed Accessory. Power Trim wasn't offered for it

yea accept the old style over hub exhaust gearcase. honestly those last longer anyway, just has lower thrust at slow speeds can be a pain keeping course into the wind but splitting hairs here:) check to be sure the cam roller comes away from the throttle cam and that the throttle cam moves all the way to port smoothly.

The roller is right between the 2 vertical white lines at idle. The roller wheel leaves the cam at about 3/4 of throttle position. Starts instantly. 1/10 of a second crank every time. It does not need any choking in summer mornings.
