Grease nipple not a zerk

Re: Grease nipple not a zerk

On those fittings, I have always used the white grease that comes in the spray cans. The little red straw fits nice and tight in the hole and when you spray, it coats the internals with grease. I guess I always figured thats how these fittings were supposed to be greased. I am curious (if they do take grease from a grease gun) why they didn't use zerks on this location when the same motor has probably 4-5 other zerks for a regular grease gun in other places.

On my big twin 35, they only have nipples not zerks, they are part of the casting.

I use a small rubber washer on that type of zerk, and a regular grease gun.
The rubber washer seals well enough to grease those fittings with a regular gun.

Thanks for the observation, but I think we all know that.
The point of this thread is that many of us aren't satisfied with a regular grease gun in this application.
I have always found it easier doing it my way. It seals the end of the gun tip.

Sorry, can't figure out why you would take the extra step, since you know there is a seal in there already.

My grease gun seals well on regular ball-tip zerks...on the cast ones that we are discussing, it doesn't. I use a small rubber washer the same ID as the cast nipple and it sealsd the tip OK.
Only takes a second.

If you have a grease gun that seals OK as is, you are one of the lucky ones.
