Here is your children and guns there Wimperdink. I have lots of guns and children. Do I keep them locked up or unloaded? What good is an unloaded gun? What good is a gun if you cant get to it? Does that make me irresponsible? No. My children are supervised 24-7 by my very responsible wife. No, I dont need the guns to feel manly and no Im not protecting myself. I have guns because I CAN. I like them. My daughter loves it. She loves to see the targets explode, she loves the big bang they make. It is something we do together.

Re: Got kids? LOCK UP YOUR **** GUNS!

Here in the People's Socialist Republic of Madison our diverse Chief of Police came home and put his gun in the oven for safe keeping. Dumbass got hungry and fired up the oven. Boom, Boom, Boom. Should have been fired, took a couple of years before his incompetence finally caught up and he quit.

The problem is that the anti-gun people have impure thoughts as to what they would do with a gun if they had one in their hand. I call it a mental defect, probably the result of the public skool system.

My kids never had the need to "play" with my guns. Guess I taught them when they were real young the meaning of the word NO.Just today a 16 year old , driving 80 mph, drunk, killed himself and 4 others. Shouldn't his parents be held responsible for improper training?
My kids were told, any underage drinking and they walk. So far they haven't worn out their shoes. Maybe I'm just a hard *** and take parental responsibility seriously.

I AM NOT ANTI GUN!

This is not an attack on gun owners. More a plea for being responsible.

If you would have taken the time to actually read my previous posts, you would see I have nothing against people owning guns. I have nothing against people teaching proper gun etiquette to kids. The younger the better. I'm just saying (again) that when not in use, stow them properly.

I can only hope that your not bullheaded enough to not understand the differance between kids being taught properly under proper supervision, and kids stuffing a loaded gun in their book bag to take to school with the intention of shooting their teacher or possibly your well trained pretty little girl there.

P.S. If your not using them to protect yourself, why are you having a problem getting to your gun when its locked up? or unloaded?

Children's curiosity about the mystery causes many more accidental shootings than deliberate intent to do harm.

If you are going to keep your children ignorant about guns, then for gosh sakes get rid of the guns or lock them up. If you are gonna lock them up you might just as well not have them.

Same goes for alcohol, knives, lawnmowers, baseball bats and many other potentially deadly tools.

Stow them properly? That is a relative statement. To whose standards? Yours?

Think hard enough, do you really need a gun for protection? If so, shouldnt you start thinking about moving your loved ones to a better place? (let me guess, you cant afford it) Sell your guns, get a job, and move!!!
You say that your not anti-gun. This statement oozes with anti-gun BS.

P.S. If your not using them to protect yourself, why are you having a problem getting to your gun when its locked up? or unloaded?
Do you lock up your hammer or screwdrivers?

I agree with everything you said with the exception of the above. Some people legitimatly hunt, or collect or target practice.

Oh and I'll get rid of my lawnmower gladly if you'll agree to cut my grass :D

Ahoy Wimp! why would a person with a permit be any more qualified that a person without a permit to control their firearms? That is akin to stating that just cause I have a drivers license permit I will not drive drunk.

And **** man, when I was a kid we used to have BB gun fights...sure stung if I got shot,...but we knew not to shoot at each others vitals, like head shots. With todays paranoid do goodies kids can't even possess a BB gun lest **** heads call the cops due to pure paranoia.

For the record, we in our so called "modern state" can thank thank the pot head peace nicks for all the current anti gun attitude. Those over the hill 50 and 60 plus year old Jane Fonda lovers. These folks would have me teaching my kids flower arranging and basket weaving instead of true manly skills such as use of and respect for firearms. And try to sell me and my kids that we should by paddling in a creek with a low impact canoe, using cedar paddles, instead of a gas guzzling boat.

Dern, Wimperdink, welcome to the Iboats board by the way.......

Goes along the line of the nut that seriously proposed that pointy knives be banned. There is no need for a point on a knife.

Re: Got kids? LOCK UP YOUR **** GUNS!

I have safes full of guns and so does my dad. I never killed anyone, nor did my kids! My dad taught me about guns at an early age. He told me all about how one mistake could end a life. He also took me out and showed me how to shoot and how to be safe. We had many happy times at the range shooting trap with our shotguns or firing our rifles, and many great hunts. I in turn passed this along to my kids. If you have guns at home , it is your responsibility to teach every kid in the house about safe gun handling and such. No Ifs And's or But's.

All that said, a big part of safe gun handling is keeping guns locked up tight.

Sorry Nate, I didnt start this thread to create an argument or to "troll".

This is a very real threat. It happened in the middle school in my town around 9:30 a.m. yesterday. 7th graders no less. I'm sorry if you view this as an idle troll. And i hope for you an yours, that it doesnt come to a school near you.

Screwdrivers and hammers are kept in a toolbox and dont even compare. I'd rather have a child point a loaded screwdriver at me than a loaded gun.

A load of crap if I ever read one!

Like there are naturally supoposed to be places overrun by criminals...and you're stupid if you don't run away or sell all you have because of a few cretins terrorizing your neighborhood?? Sounds like estrogen is clouding someone's judgement to me. I think you do indeed have something against guns and gun owners but you don't seem to have the honesty to come right out and say it. That spells "a-g-e-n-d-a" to me.

Is it that hard to read a topic as a whole and view the real message that is being portrayed?

True concern for safety of family...

Overrun by criminals - move
A few cretins - Call police

Your neighbors probably don't want or need you handling neighborhood cretins with guns drawn. Thats why their taxes pay for their Police Dept.

Your entitled to your opinion.

Re: Got kids? LOCK UP YOUR **** GUNS!

I don't know, I sleep pretty good knowing I have that 12 guage pump resting peacefully next to my bed. No, I do not have childrens running around. There was not any guns around when I was a kid, and I know if there were, I would have messed with them out of curiosity. It is a tough call, because I too feel a locked up unloaded gun is useless. I know full well that in the time a criminal breaks into a house and you wake up and realize that has happened, you do not have the time to unlock, load, and engage him. You are dead, especially in a home invasion. So what to do, what to do. Kids are kids, they will want to mess with things. You can't fire your gun if you are not at home, so maybe a lock on the bedroom door to keep the kids out? Heck, I don't know...

Re: Got kids? LOCK UP YOUR **** GUNS!

Let me tell a story about myself.

When I was a little tike, I was shown the proper respect for a firearm and how to safely handle them. I new that if I ever touched one without adult supervision I would be beat severly. One time when my parents went to Reno for a week, I stayed at my grandparents house next door to ours till they came back. I was a "VERY" inquisitive young man of about 12 years old. I was over at my house for something and started going through everything I could find that I hadnt already explored and came across a 25 auto my mom had in her closet. I didnt even know she had it and it was extremly hard to leave it alone. I called my best friend and he came over, and we checked it out. First thing I did was remove the clip and check to see if it was loaded, it was, I then unloaded it while pointing it away from either of us and we even took it all apart and put it back together. I lived in the country so we decided we wanted to shoot it. We took it and the amunition up into the hills and each fired off a few rounds. I cut my hand because I held it too close to the action. Brought it back to the house, cleaned it and put it back just the way I found it, loaded and all.

Now, having said that, I never one time even concidered taking it to school to show off, shooting someone or the neighbors dog which I hated.

I say that because I was shown proper use of a firearm at an early age is why I never shot my freind or myself. What I did was for sure wrong, but no harm was done.

Where do you all live?? Man, I've lived in a lot of different places over the years, and I've never felt the need to have a loaded gun at the ready, unless I was out pheasant hunting.

Oh, well.

I simply think that a gun owner should be criminally liable for whatever use is made of an improperly stored gun. Hey, if you want to keep a loaded 9 mm Browning under your pillow, fine, but you better make sure who has access to your bedroom.

Re: Got kids? LOCK UP YOUR **** GUNS!

Having a loaded gun in the house is something I have no problem with. I do however have a problem with killing a bad guy because he is taking my TV. Way to many people would jump at the chance to deep six a petty thief. Mess with the family,,,, thats a whole different story. Looking at it as a realist I would say the chance's of needing a gun to fend off bad guys as you sleep are slim to none, and if it does happen then there is an even better chance that bad guy will get your gun and use it on ya.

Like Jason said "shotgun by the bed" I could sneak right in there pick it up and wake him by shoving the barrel in his head.

If kids are in the house, bad idea to keep a loaded gun. Lubedude makes that point clear, he knew he should not mess with that gun under threat of a severe azz whooping. But being a curious kid he did it anyway.

You want home security Buy a dog, thats all you'll ever need.
