There was a fella restoring a cv-23 about a year ago and his post’s just ended it seems. Didn’t know if anyone knew the outcome of the restoration project. I’m starting the exact project he was working on an identical boat.

First, welcome aboard

Members come and go

Restorations all take the same path. De-rig the boat, build a cradle, uncap the hull, cut out the bad, replace with good. Re-rig

Thanks, seemed like he spent a lot of time documenting his project and then it just went cold. Docmirror I think was his user name. Either way I’m doing pretty much what you described, gut it and see just how bad it gets and deal with the consequences lol.

Thanks for the welcome and I’ll try not to let the project go cold. This is actually the second boat I’ve ever owned and just got love drunk on the Glastron and couldn’t say no to the project. I’m sure I’ll need some help and wisdom from experienced guys.

Post pics as you progress. I will show it to my brother to hopefully motivate him on his CV19 project.

To add to what Scott said, take pics, take measurements, and make sketches of things as you de-rig and demo.

I’m going to get the fuel cell out tomorrow and try to remove the rest of the floor. Then we’ll see the rest of the story on how rotted things are…

So I managed to get the tank out and of course found the rotten wood I expected to find. Also found a the leak in the bottom. Some flawed fiberglass work and a pretty small area that had delaminated. The center board is wet but appears to be rock solid. The rear bulkhead is completely gone and the front is scetchy at best but I expected it to be. I’m sure you’ve all seen this a million times already.

Any advice on how to go about that?
pull drive (like you do with annual maintenance)
disconnect fuel/cables/exhaust
unbolt mounts
lift motor out

then build the cradle to match the shape of the hull.
