Re: Garage Organization

I've got 16' of pegboard on one garage wall which is great for bigger stuff like lawn tools and whatnot. And I've got pegboard on the walls over my work bench for tools and stuff. It works great and makes things easy to get to and put away. I also built 20' of free standing shelving that holds all the big stuff. All in all about $300 worth of materials if you do it yourself.

FYI you peg board users complaining about the hooks falling out. You can get hook retainers, (usually plastic clips) that lock the hooks to the peg board. They are generally available the same places the board and hooks are sold. I have also seen wire ties used to do the same. ;) ;)

If you use a pegboard PLEASE don't outline the tools with paint on the pegboard!! Just the thought of that drives me nuts!!! :p

Re: Garage Organization

For my screw drivers, above the bench, I have shelves, on the front of one of the shelves, I took a roll of 3/4" metal strapping, bent it in waves and screwed to the front of the shelf, stick all the screwdrivers in that.

From my experience, open shelves work better than buying cabinets. I had a 6' x 2' 2 door metal cabinet in my garage with spray paint, oil etc... built a shelf on the wall that held all of it and exposed a LOT more space.

Re: Garage Organization

Hi,

New to the site.. annnd... I know this is an old thread, I'm only replying in case someone on google or something seeks an answer to a similar dilemma. If anyone else is looking to organize anything they own, I'd check out the company GetStorganized. I think their website is their name. Lots of good stuff.

Thanks for having me!

Garage Organization is an oxymoron.

Ain't that the truth.
I put up a 12x24 shed with two stories just to keep the clutter out of the garage. It hasn't worked out well. Now I have two buildings in varying stages of disarray. (Three counting the house)

i have initiated a new policy, something new comes in, something goes out, and not in the garage, to thrift store, or garbage.

Re: Garage Organization

I put up an 8 x 10 shed last year for my lawn equipment which freed up some space so I can keep our boat and van in there. I don't think the garage is that well organized but I have a decent amount of space. A work in progress...

I was working on a 6 month rule which was working for a while. Then, people starting giving me their junk (e.g. electric motors, boat parts - good junk!) and we're up to the 2 year rule at the moment!
