Johnson 4hp Outboard Engine

Nice little motor, didn't seem like it needed any tlc until I watched the video link in the ad.

He might not know it yet, but the motor does...

It's an air cooled motor. There is no impeller.

No it's not air cooled. They are water cooled. The cylinder head itself is mostly cooled by air but it gets some raw water cooling and the exhaust is cooled with water. There is a pump in the leg.. Not the first time I've seen a Lightwin run dry tho.

I got this boat off of craigslist for free check it out on this thread.

Cannot beat the price. Now get your checkbook out and fill it up. The 'fun part' is expensive. When you are done it is not possible to put a price on the satisfaction you get from restoring a boat. As most find out the finished product is worth about 30% of what you have put into it.

Don’t get overwhelmed by the “rats nest” of wiring. I have seen worse looking on boats that run fine. First thing I would do is obtain the wiring diagram for that engine. The second thing would be to locate one of your Navy buddies that is either a EM or ET and offer to trade a couple of case of beer or some free boat rides when you get it running if he is willing to trace the circuits for you. Most of them are more than likely OK and they just need some wrapping and cable ties.

Good luck with your project.

Looks like he should keep the boat with that house as they go together well.

Ah heck. At least he is doing a first class roof repair with a tarp. A real rednek use use a bucket.

Yes, but they are a matching set, and appear to be in great condition! ;)
