actually, it depends on whether it's a boater's boat. There are plenty of boats that can sit outside year round, in the water or not, and handle "sitting outside with no protection". These are boats that are "built to be in the water." Back in the day, wooden boats, painted or varnished, did fine, too. Like a car, though, they don't do so well under trees, uncovered, for a long stretch, but like a car, they can handle it if they are washed. Now if you choose to have a boat that's built like a convertible with no top, that's different. Personally, I wouldn't, any more than I'd buy a topless convertible.
I think people have the impression that boats are built to be in the water, so they should be able to handle sitting outside with no protection...A convertible car with the top down has as much chance as a boat does sitting in the same spot with nature making it its home people!
