why oh why would you "forget" to winterize your boat. just drain the thing......

Because it takes 5 minutes.... duh. A shame, beautiful looking boat.

EDIT: Although I bet he never thought it would freeze like it did in Atlanta. I bet any other year he probably would've got away with it.

My favorite line of b.s. I hear is "you know how much these boats are worth new?" I reply yes I do and no yours is nowhere near new.

"has a hole in the bottom of it and i dont have a trailoer but it looks good from the sides of it"

A $1,700 rowboat? well it only leaks at the bottom not the 2 sides or transom...

on the frozen boat-- I don't know much about i/o but the freeze in Atlanta was rare, and my guess is that the damage was contained in the frozen engine--not the whole hull skull-crushing freezing like you'd get up north from a hull full of rain water, melted snow, etc. So probably not a bad deal if the price of a replacement block plus his asking price is about market for a running boat of that type.

That's one of the better i've seen in a while. Perfect "TLC" thread material. I was impressed with his spelling of "trailer," he couldn't make up his mind whether it be an E or an O so he used both. I think you can add "Whether or not poster can spell "trailer."" to Sparkie's list of things to consider while CL boat shopping.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

Found a bright blue Glasstron with a 60hp johnson on CL. It was about as pretty a bowrider as you'd ever seen. Good glass, carpet, even the upholstry was decent enough to be salvaged. All sitting on what appeared to be a perfectly good aluminum trailer. So we struck a deal for $200 and I thought I was getting a steal. (Even though he desided to keep the Johnson) Well on the way home the center support on the that "nice" aluminum trailer cracked almost in two! The aft starboard drug pavement every time i hit the smallest bump. But it gets better. I got her home and climbed inside to look around only to step completely through the carpet and rotten floor into the bilge area. Working to get my foot free I noticed I could now see light coming in from the transom area... (oh no) yeah, there was a foot long split running the intire lower length of the engine mounting plate. I couldn't even see it from outside, but inside it was apparently large enough for maple tree seeds to get in and sprout.
I got hosed! That jerk musta thought he was real slick.
So I stripped the whole boat of all the aluminum, stainless and salvageable parts I could. I sold the lights, steering wheel, pump, fuel lines, windshield, throttle and steering cables, and guages on ebay. I collected every stainless screw for my own projects. Donated the hull to a church playground. Sold the axle to a buddy to build a canoe trailer. And took all the scrap, wiring, and the trailer to the salvage yard where I made 66 cents a lb. All told that whole project took me 24 hours and netted me $150. Now who's getting the last laugh?

$6.25 an hour? I'd say he did.
