Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.
Found a bright blue Glasstron with a 60hp johnson on CL. It was about as pretty a bowrider as you'd ever seen. Good glass, carpet, even the upholstry was decent enough to be salvaged. All sitting on what appeared to be a perfectly good aluminum trailer. So we struck a deal for $200 and I thought I was getting a steal. (Even though he desided to keep the Johnson) Well on the way home the center support on the that "nice" aluminum trailer cracked almost in two! The aft starboard drug pavement every time i hit the smallest bump. But it gets better. I got her home and climbed inside to look around only to step completely through the carpet and rotten floor into the bilge area. Working to get my foot free I noticed I could now see light coming in from the transom area... (oh no) yeah, there was a foot long split running the intire lower length of the engine mounting plate. I couldn't even see it from outside, but inside it was apparently large enough for maple tree seeds to get in and sprout.
I got hosed! That jerk musta thought he was real slick.
So I stripped the whole boat of all the aluminum, stainless and salvageable parts I could. I sold the lights, steering wheel, pump, fuel lines, windshield, throttle and steering cables, and guages on ebay. I collected every stainless screw for my own projects. Donated the hull to a church playground. Sold the axle to a buddy to build a canoe trailer. And took all the scrap, wiring, and the trailer to the salvage yard where I made 66 cents a lb. All told that whole project took me 24 hours and netted me $150. Now who's getting the last laugh?
