Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I actually did score a hell of a deal I think. Guy had a 1988 Four Winns 180 Horizon and trailer listed for $250. I called him up and went to take a look at it. He had it stored for the winter in a storage unit. With all of the snow that we got in Western Michigan this winter (160" here), the roof of the storage unit collapsed. The owner of the unit had probably 20 boats inside and at least 15 antique cars. I felt bad. Anyway, checked out the boat. It was full of insulation and the port windshield and center walkthrough had been crushed. Trailer was in great shape minus a busted jack and a busted tail light. I told the guy I would take it. Figuredworst case scenario, the boat doesn't run, I sell the trailer for $750 - $1000 and then part the boat. Best case scenario, I get a running boat and a trailer for $250. Cleaned out the insulation this weekend. Hooked a water line up to the stern drive. Turned the key with fingers crossed. The engine turned over 3 times then fired up. It purred like a kitten for 5 minutes with me testing the throttle and the gears. It was all good. Got a windshield for it yesterday. I am totally stoked. Runs well, looks decent. All for $250.

What paperwork did you get with it, could be important if your state requires Titling. Was there an Insurance payout to the owner? If so then sometimes that puts a wrinkle in the ownership transfer process. Good luck, hope it all works out :)

Under powered 17' tri hull,

I especially love the OSB seating and untreated bare plywood floor in a fiberglass boat.

All for the measly price of $700 to much

17 ft boat

GA, I think you've been watching too many episodes of Criminal Minds or CSI..... Leg & foot..........

Things must be tougher in Tennessee then I thought.... The TVA has drained that lake WAY down. WTH?? There's a dock section beached just off the starboard helm and at least 5 or 6 other docks high & dry in the background.

JB Douglas lake gets drained that far every year, that pic is about 3 months old, (yes he has been trying to pass that garbage off for 3 months).

Its coming back up now, but Douglas is the source of Power for Sevier, Jefferson, ****, and parts of Blount and Knox county.

Seeing Docks like that is the norm for Dec- March

It kind of does, this guy is trying to get someone to haul off the body for $400.0

Yes, the original, but a Gen three is what's beside the boat. After that they went to sub-compacts. UGH!

I probably never made it out to Douglas lake between Dec & March growing up. Every summer though, yep, 2wks solid. Saw my 1st alligator gar & pizza pan sized snapping turtles there. Good times....

Power usage is up a tick or thousand since the early to mid 70's, ESP in the counties outside of Knoxville.
