Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.
I bought a boat (before I knew ANYTHING about what to look for), a 1963 Glastron Gulfstream. The craigslist ad said in big block letters *TURN KEY*. I asked the guy all sorts of questions about it's condition, his standard answer was "It's brand new" and "All my stuff is top-flight". As it turns out very little of what he said about the boat was true, it ran in the driveway, but not in the water. There was about four gallons of water in the fuel tank. The parts he said were new (fuel tank, electronic ignition, battery and so on) were actually used, or came out of junked boats. I had to rebuild the carb, change the electronic ignition, replace broken spark plug wires, replace the coil. The shift cable needs to be replaced and now I suspect the gimbal bearing needs to be replaced, though I'm not sure, one mechanic says it does, another says it's the sound of exhaust flaps. Now some paint is peeling near the bottom of the bow, could be just cheap paint or maybe the hull is waterlogged in some areas.
Hardly *TURN KEY*
But it was my own dang fault for not being more knowledgeable.
