here you go.... he would would JUST buy THE part and fix it himself, but he isnt mechanically inclinded!! ha ha ha

"So there is now 2 holes in the assembly block, one of which a rod is sticking out. I am not mechanical otherwise I would order the part and fix it mayself. But the cost of the part and labor for someone to fix it, is not worth the money for me. So this would be a nice winter project for someone who could order the part and fix it themselfs."

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I got a kick out of this.

Looking to purchase a mid to late 1960's fiberglass runabout. Prefer a Johnson or Evinrude motor from the same era. I'm not interested in any "fixer up-ers." It's ready for the water, or it isn't. I'm looking for a outboard in the 40 horsepower class.. Again, if it has issues, I'm not interested. I'm too old to deal with bad lower units and dead coils and power packs. I'm willing to pay up to 800.00 in CASH for the right boat. That's the going price for what I'm looking for. Also, the interior must be at least functional, as in, the seats and flooring must be adequate. Having stated the above, I was a mechanic for autos and small outboards for 25 years, so I'll know if it has a problem with the head or gearing. Anyone that's seriously interested in my ad, please respond to this ad an I'll give you my personal phone after verifying your response.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I bought a boat (before I knew ANYTHING about what to look for), a 1963 Glastron Gulfstream. The craigslist ad said in big block letters *TURN KEY*. I asked the guy all sorts of questions about it's condition, his standard answer was "It's brand new" and "All my stuff is top-flight". As it turns out very little of what he said about the boat was true, it ran in the driveway, but not in the water. There was about four gallons of water in the fuel tank. The parts he said were new (fuel tank, electronic ignition, battery and so on) were actually used, or came out of junked boats. I had to rebuild the carb, change the electronic ignition, replace broken spark plug wires, replace the coil. The shift cable needs to be replaced and now I suspect the gimbal bearing needs to be replaced, though I'm not sure, one mechanic says it does, another says it's the sound of exhaust flaps. Now some paint is peeling near the bottom of the bow, could be just cheap paint or maybe the hull is waterlogged in some areas.

Hardly *TURN KEY*

But it was my own dang fault for not being more knowledgeable.
