Yes indeed it is an l drive... 🫣It starts En runs.when I give a little bit of throttle on the timing tower😁😁 But no idle at this time. Responding good on throttle #happy.. First do the cooling now.. I have only one gasket for the exhaust it came with my rebuild kit. Saw 2 pieces on the internet.. water is leaking out of the exhaust. That is not okay right

Congrats. The big hurdle is now over. The thermostat is normally close. So unless, the water temp goes high and it only takes about a minute or less, then it will slowly open. If it continues to stay close, remove the thermostat for now. Do you have a tell tale on the thermostat housing that you can tell water is not reaching the thermostat? Remember, this motor is on a bench and the water impeller is not connected. So you will need to increase pressure on the water hose so the water can go to the cooling ports.

If everything fails, remover the t-stat housing and t-stat. With engine off, shove a hose and keep a seal using rugs and hands, to the t-stat housing and turn on the water slowly. Just make sure you put a cover on all the electrical parts. The water should drain to the exhaust bellow. If not then you have a blockage.

Water coming out of the exhaust is normal.

I removed the thermostat. It is also new. But before the water reached the thermostat housing. It came out of the exhaust. So the gasket dit not work properly. So that's why I asked if there should be 2 gaskets fitted. Like the drawings.

When you say exhaust, do you mean exhaust manifold or are you referring to the exhaust bellow where the gas exhaust also exits? If you are referring to the exhaust manifold, you are correct you need to have two gaskets for the manifold.

Tnx... Yes I mean manifold. Okay so first I Will search for 2 gaskets here in the netherlands. Do you know where the water enters the powerhead from the exhaust manifold. Can only find 2 openings in the powerhead

Here's a drawing for you. But it all starts with the water tube from the impeller, to the exhaust manifold and then to the top of the power head where the t-stat is located. The exhaust manifold also has a small opening (relief valve) that allows small amount of cooling water to exit while waiting for the t-stat to open. When t-stat is open, then cooling water runs around the cylinders and finally exits through a tube in the exhaust bellow.

It has been a few weeks now.. The engine runs good. Cooling looks good. But now I wait for the summer of 2024.. Then I will put the engine back in the boat. En hope it runs fine after fine tuning. Tnx for helping me everybody. I will reply next summer. 😁 Tnx

Hello everybody. Engine is in the boat after a few months... But..... I dont get it to start easely. What is the correct procedure for starring this thing?? And what amps should the battery be?? It cranks allot slower with the l-drive attached

I have not worked with the L-drive but the 3 and 4-cylinder Chrysler/Force need a 60 Ah or lager battery 550 CC or more (cranking capacity).
Are you sure the LU (L-drive) is okey?
The only thing except the gears and bearings that maybe slow the cranking speed is the impeller.
A new impeller in the housing and without water in it can be hard to turn.

I think i know why it is hard to start... The fuel pump doesnt work properly. It is also completely rebuild.. Pfffff. I am going to try an Electric low pressure pump. Or is that a bad idea??

If carburetors are full the motor should start.--------The fuel pump is driven by a PRESSURE pulse from crankcase.---Is there a good pulse ?

In my opinion an electric fuel pump is a NO NO NO.
The OEM pressure driven pump is very very reliable.
The check valves never fail, change diaphragm and maybe the gaskets and it should work.

Okay. Then I will wait for that. The pump is rebuild. Maybe i dit it wrong. Today i saw 2 little Cracks in the intake manifold.... 2my supprise a shop here in the netherlands have them, so now waiting for them.

I was thinking.... In the workshop the engine was running. With cooling water... It ran on 2 stroke gas comming out of an external fuel tank... The fuel tank of the boat i pumped empty.. But ithink that it can never be completely empty. When it stands for a number of years.. Will the oil of 2 stroke sink down to the bottum??? If so.. My fuel mixture is bad now

Yes the mixture will be different but not from the 2 stroke oil sinking.
The gasolin will evaporate and the mixtur will be different from that.
I would suggest you to clean out that fixed tank.
I think there is a lot of dirt and condensation water from all years in the bottom of it.
BTW Make sure there are no leakage of air at the intake manifold.
If it sucks air beside the carbs it will run lean and there is a big risk it will melt or destroy the pistons from running too lean mixture.

Okay so today i refit the wiring from the starter. Everything New. I notist there is free play on the ax.. Left to right and top to bottem. This isnt good. Maybe thats wij its not cranking enough. When i watch youtube. All the starters go like crazy... Maybe thats the reason wy its not fyring up. What is a good replacement for the starter??
