Searching for different materials to restore floor i came accross a new product to me anyway, it's a tile floor sub flooring material.

Tile backer DENSGUARD by georgia pacific. in its literature it says "Densguard is composed of propriority water resistant treated core that is covered front and back with fiberglass mats. The coated mats are permantely intergrated with the core during manufctring, preventing delamination problems associated with green board. Heat cured acrylic coating that stops surface water and retards vapor transmission protecting the wall cavity and substrate..it's other strengths are its 30% lighter."

i looked at the 3x5 sheets 1/4 and 1/2 in, i think the only prioblem might be the span between braces. of course you can always ad more.

3x5 1/4 was 8.95.......this material describes just what i'm doing to my plywood.....anybody used it??

i looked at nautolex and don't need a 600 floor.

thanks for responses and glad i found this site.

Re: Flooring material

Welcome aboard pwfish1.

30% lighter than what? Tile backer is like cement and is heavy. It's good for kitchen and bathroom floors, so it may be good for boat floors, but like I said it's heavy. I'm not sure if 1/4" is thick enough and 1/2" may be too heavy. Wait for some more opinions. Good luck.

Re: Flooring material

Too brittle and heavy. The cheapest and best floor is still fiberglassed 1/2 exterior ply. The 1/2" tile backer board is about 40lbs a 3x5 sheet.

Re: Flooring material

lake and skeeter, thanks for response, but, this is not backerboard, the cement type. i know what that is and used it on my own floors. this material is used in the same manner but, has entirely different properties in manufacturing. take a look at it again, a 3x5 panel onlys weighs 27lbs, if thats light for flooring.

thanks
paul
