Fitting my Bunks to my boat

I have a cobalt232 and trying to fit it to a Phoenix trailer. there are 4 bunks that all end evenly at the end of the trailer.

The 232 has the actual transom recessed about 14" from the extended outer running surfaces.

Can I leave the transom supported by the inner bunks and leave the outer running surfaces that extend beyond the outer bunks (by 14") unsupported ?

I figure the engine and outdrive will be supported by the inner bunks and not much weight will be on the outer longer extended running surfaces?

thanks !

Pictures please. In my opinion, all the bunks should touch the hull, the shorter ones can be trimmed to fit or moved to where they need to be.

I agree with Grub above. Best practice is for your transom to be inside/forward of the bunks. ....Having said this, my current and previous Shoreland'r Equiload trailers are two bunk which have worked fine. But Shoreland'r bunks are fully adjustable which allowed me to get the rear of the bunks directly under the stringers and slightly beyond the transom.
So if the longer inner bunks align with the stringers/engine mounts you should be OK.

some pics the boat is on a shoreland roller trailer with rear support only under the transom. The Phoenix trailer I hope will be my long term solution to haul my boat around.

It's kind of hard to tell, not knowing how much boat is above those bumped out sections.

Does the transom core run the width of the boat (i.e., does it run thru the bumped-out sections to the sides of the hull) such that it is supported by the outer bunks? Or does the transom core only cover the inset area where the outdrive is?

That trailer is specific to the a particular Hull, so the Angle, and location of the bunks might not be correct for your Hull.
That said, you have an I/O and most of the weight will be on the Center Bunks and if you can get the Boat on far enough so those Bunks are at the end of the Hull where the I/O is, you might be okay
Extending the outer bunks really wont do much, as unsupported 2x6s would bend if any weight was placed on them. I guess you could weld a braced Support to the rear Posts under the outer bunks to allow a longer bunk.

I would have to look to see if the transom runs the whole width.

I thought about a welded bracket to carry the extra length. There is anout 4 inches of the side main fram past the bunk ends now.
check this pic to see how custom cobalt trailers extend the outer bunks.

Maybe cobalt can tell me what weight the end of the outer bunks carry.

thanks for the help !

Ask Cobalt who makes a Trailer specific for your hull, and contact info

I would believe you are correct in your theory.
Providing full support under the transom where the weight is from the motor and outdrive is a must. I have no clue though how much weight would be hanging at 14" off the outer bunks, might be a concern??

Forgive my ignorance but in the 6 photo's it looks to me that 1-3 are from a different trailer than 4-6!?!?!

Per my theory above the Shoreland'r roller bunks look fine. It supports the transom below the transom and gimbal housings where the load is the greatest, and also appears to support the stringers/engine mounts. The overhang is nonstructural. Some boat builders specify four bunk trailers. ...opinion here, but if a boat is built structurally sound four bunks are overkill. And if a Cobalt isn't structurally sound, no boat is.
