I would grind it all away (but im a glutton for punishment!) something to be aware of is poly resin wont stick to old gellcoat, so that all has to be ground off wherever youll be fiberglassing new bits in

It will stick to gell coat but not as well ... I agree with gsx .. Take it down to fresh clean glass for best adhesion .

So do you think I should try and use the angle grinder on all the fg till I get to the hull? Then sand down the sides?

Only really need to get down to glass where you plan on installing new glass ..
