Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, and it seems great place. I just got an early 70's crest liner stinger that is in dissarray with an evinrude lark 35, manual shift, electric start(no female plug for it), and the fuel tank has a completely different connection. I am thinking about hard wiring the ignition, and the fuel lines for starters. The transom, and floor seem to be solid, there is no carpet, and there are no seats. I was advised to clean the fiber glass before using marine grade carpet, and as far as seats are concerned,i am thinking 1 seat for the operator, a boat cooler for fishing, and maybe a couple marine folding chairs as well? I have a buddy that said I could have his old cannon mag 10 down riggers, and i would like to set a planer board system up for running dipseys, or coppers(a 300, and a 400 copper), with two down riggers should make a great fishing boat for spring browns, and steel head, and lakers/kings in the summer i'd imagine? What would you more experienced people suggest? I know it is a smaller boat, and i wont be going out in anything major, and i paid $160 for the boat, trailer, the 35 horse, and a dissassembled 35 johnson so i can't go wrong can i?

Post a few pix. There may be sources online to provide the ignition & electric start wiring harnesses.......

Pix would help w/ some of the remaining questions.....

Re: First boat project ever, crest liner stinger

Hi guys, sorry it has been a few days, busy as heck trying to get stuff done fore salmon season. The engineis a 1958 evinrude lark 35 hp engine, and a dual line fuel system(To pressurize the tank). I am considering running a Mikuni fuel pump(Single in, dual out?) to make it a little easier, on the right side of the motor there is a connector that has been discontinued since the late 80's and i have no wiring in my boat at all. I figured I would hard wire it with 100' of wire(buy a spool), get a few feet of battery cable, and do my best to get it running. I am not too worried about the choke, it does have a manual choke, but the pull start is not an option. There are a couple dings in the hull where the light shines through a little that I will be re-fiberglassing soon, and the carpet will be done after the wiring. As fa as down riggers are concerned, I am going with 2 cannon lake troll down riggers, and 4lb balls, and 2 planer boards with 300, and 400, copper. I was told as far as wiring is concerned to just wire the starter first, and then as days go by do 1 circuit at a time(Electric choke, and such). The ignition will most likely just be a toggle switch, and a push button to keep it simple. Any suggestions guys? Thanks in advance for help, here is a picture of the boat, and 2 of the engine i appreciate everything!engine.jpghull.jpgplug.jpg

Hey Jeremy

I am currently restoring a 1972 Stinger myself. I am learning I go. I posted some pics of mine in my threads. Would like to see how your restore is going. I am currently redoing my floor because the balsa core was all rotted, I guess its pretty common for a boat this age. The floor was solid seem solid when I got it but after taking out the plywood flooring, I notice delamination from the glass and knew something was up. Oh well, at least its all out and grinded down, just waiting for supply to come to reglass my floor. Good luck with yours.

There are conversion kits for this outboard that will allow use of a regular fuel tank and system. I am restoring two 57's and will be converting both to the more modern fuel systems. The system that you have is worth $$ so dont throw any of it out, you can sell this or keep it to include it as part of the sale if/when you sell this one.
