Great picture of that boat on the lawn! I need to do the same soon. I'm over here still stripping paint off the sides. (I need to update my thread today). Good job so far.

Only 10,000 itty-bitty, stinkin' reevits, did ya miss any? LOL I bet you're glad that's over., STF.

Going back to the earlier pic of the rusty looking keel. you might want to think about drilling a drain hole in the rear of the keel, ala Jason. There is a hole up near the front and a matching rear drain hole will let water out instead of collecting. I've noticed that after rain when I lower the jack to hook-up water pours out of the front hole. I think what's happening is rain runs down the hull to the lowest spot (keel) and runs inside the keel stamping. The keel stamping isn't sealed to the hull so rain oozes inside and just lays there. Just a thought.

Good work, keep putting her together. :D

Thanks GA, it does have 2 drain 1 front, 1 rear however i think the rear one is clogged or something? so Ima drill another hole close to it & maybe fish a wire or something in, see if I can clean it out?

Didn't get to work on the SC much this weekend. Honey-do list was long. I have been doing decking, coating reasearch. I am wanting to install aerator intake below waterline opposite the drain hole(see pic)
Also I don't like the way the factory drain is, leaves room for settling water even after removing the drain. I'd like to install an extra drain plug, the screw on type. My concern is weakening the area that i install the 2 new hole's, What are y'alls thoughts???

I can't figure out why boat makers make those drain holes so high. Seems silly to me.

So, I drilled out new ones on my Islander and the Sea Nymph just like you are suggesting there, so I say go for it.;)

Thanks Jas,
Glad to hear from someone thats done it! I've read some pro's & cons on Iboats & google searches, it seems to be a wash, I just wanted that lil bit more of opinions. Prolly gonna go forward with it, but gotta get it sealed up, decked, & transom going B4 it gets to cold down here!

Gotta hate how work gets in the way of boat building, but then again boat building cost $$ and work brings home the $$

OK GUYS, I PROMISE, I'M NOT FLAKING OUT...
I'm JUST IN A REAL TIGHT time mgmt. situation. I've tried to sand the boat & every time I start, something comes up! WELL, I tell you I'm not giving up, this SC is my dream Boat, so, I know I kinda hit a wall, but I did find a guy that says he can media blast the hull for $400-450.00 and I'm supposed to talk to him on Monday July 1 to reconfirm the drop off day of Wednesday morning July 3, he says they can have it done in a few hours, and god willing & me, I plan on doing as much as possible to the SC through the 4 day weekend I'm expecting to have.
FYI, I have at least 1,000-1200.00 in new parts & supplies STRICKLY FOR THE SC!!! Also, I'm not able to log on much but I do read the yalls threads every other day or so...

Re: Finally found my 1st Starcraft! 1979 SS 180 w/ 115 merc O/B

thanks dozer,
I have the SC flipped over and really want to get the old paint off & start with new paint. So I've been trying to sand it, well that's not gonna work for me! I bought 2 diff abrasive blasters & neither have worked out. to make it short, I have plenty of PSI(6hp motor & 60 gallon tank) but original paint is on there & I mean good... So I'm supposed to be having it blasted on Wednesday, so hopefully that works out. Then I should be able to get rollin along real good!

I've been having pretty good results from chemical strippers (Zip Strip in my case). For the really stubborn stuff, laying cling-wrap over it immediately after applying worked wonders...I mean night-and-day! I thought that I was going to have to go the media blasting route until I tried the cling wrap.

I haven't been on this forum for a while. I bought one just like yours 2 years ago for $400. The previous owner had stripped everything to the hull and all the parts were laying in the bottom. I did not get all the windshield parts, but I found another boat at a mechanics and adapted the windshields from that boat. I had it all put together by last summer except for the paint on the hull. I had the motor pulled to replace the transom. It was running great prior to that, but now no spark to the plugs. I have done some testing and seem to be getting power at other places. I do have some other tests I can run. So far this year I have not even had time to untarp. Maybe later this summer. A lot of work to rebuild, but in the end a good, solid boat.

Richardlee, Bluefin,

I hear ya, I just didn't have the time to work on the stripping. I wanted to do it myself, but I chose the mediablasting by someone else, no work no mess and Just rinse, dry, get on with prep & paint!

PICS TO FOLLOW...

OK PROGRESS FINALLY!!!

I got a call from the media guy Monday night asking if I wanted to do it a day early.... DUH, yes I jumped at it. I hauled the boat over to the guy at 9am & and he was done by 11am! (atozsodablasting.com) in keller TX his name is Randy and I was happy with his work!

I got the boat home & rinsed and will let it sit overnight to dry. ENOUGH, Here is some before & after PICS!

I got a little more done, I put 5200 on the front V cap & just under the rub bail where the side meets the top! I got some self-etching primer on the bottom and will finish it in the morning. you can see where 5200 is and it also extends all the way down each side.
