Not to many members here on iBoats will recommend cutting the outer skin to replace the transom. Not saying it hasn't been done successfully but most recommend doing it from the inside. It's totally your decision and there's pros and cons to each method. What Make, Model, Year, and size of boat are we talking about?

Its a 1987 22 ft Sea Sprite SSB 225 CC has a 5.7ltr engine and a alpha 1 outdrive, I havent had the opportunity to check under the floor past the fuel tank but aft of that is all solid underneith, Im just planning on the Transom for now, it only appears soft 6" up and about a foot wide off the keel at this point. And Ill be pulling it and replacing it from the inside.

You Can't/Won't know for sure until you get the deck up and see and explore what's below the deck. Core sampling the stringers is the only viable method to know for sure their true condition.;)

ok! but for now I only plan on cutting back the floor to just in front of the engine/bilge compartment. Theres a bulkhead that sits in front of the engine and behind the fuel tank and unless I rip the floor up in front of that I wont be able to inspect it. I have an access/storage hole between the seats just aft of the cuddy well and its soild and dry I believe that is just ahead of the fuel tank. and I also have a storage area up in the bow/cuddy floor thats dry as a bone and solid all around. Im hoping when I get the engine pulled I can investigate further. But for now like I said Im only cutting the floor back to the front of the engine compartment and side to side to the gunnels..I'll let everyone know what I find along with pics.. Im eagar to get started before it gets cold here in Mich.
