F80 - sometimes won't turn off

I have a Yamaha F80TLRA 2002 (four stroke outboard) that I've had for a few years. It sometimes will not turn off with the key turn off or even with the emergency clip removed. It will go for months without having this problem, but lately it's been doing it after the first start of the day, but fine after that. I've had to resort to pinching the fuel line and gunning it to get it to finally shut off (which can take 10-15 mins at times), but then, as I stated, it will turn start on and turn off just fine with the key for the rest of the day.

Any ideas on what is causing this? Intermittent problems are always a challenge, of course. Absent of that, is there a better way to shut it off when it won't quit? I'm even thinking of installing a fuel shut-off valve in the line where we can easily reach it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

since both the ignition switch and Kill switch have the problem at the same time, I would guess a bad connection in the harness ,
have you tied unplugging the connector at the motor and cleaning those connections up. or see any corrosion in there?
it could be in the cable itself, but to check you would need to do that checking when it does not turn the motor off.
might move the cable around when it will not turn off to see if that movement will get it to shut off

Thanks for your thoughts. I opened up the connection and they didn't look too bad. Perhaps a little residue around the female points. What's the best safe way to clean them?

they make contact cleaners, but spraying just about anything in there even WD40 and pushing the connecter in and out a few times might be helpfull to see if that helps

UPDATE: I didn't really clean anything, but apparently un-plugging/plugging in the harness was enough to solve it. At least for now. Thanks.

That is one form of preventative maintenance. Disconnecting and reconnecting electrical connectors that is.
