I have a Yamaha F80TLRA 2002 (four stroke outboard) that I've had for a few years. It sometimes will not turn off with the key turn off or even with the emergency clip removed. It will go for months without having this problem, but lately it's been doing it after the first start of the day, but fine after that. I've had to resort to pinching the fuel line and gunning it to get it to finally shut off (which can take 10-15 mins at times), but then, as I stated, it will turn start on and turn off just fine with the key for the rest of the day.
Any ideas on what is causing this? Intermittent problems are always a challenge, of course. Absent of that, is there a better way to shut it off when it won't quit? I'm even thinking of installing a fuel shut-off valve in the line where we can easily reach it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
