Engine wont shut off with key

Here's the thing...I hooked old soliniod back up and wires the way they have been since I bought the boat...fired up...runs smooth...and shuts off with the key
Guess, you did not check the connections of the old like I asked. So it did not work with new but does work with old. So either the new is different from the old, or the new is bad

Bit the old is the one that started this whole ordeal...or could have been

Then the hot side (+12v) of the solenoid is different between old and new solenoid

Again today...will not shut off with key. I changed ignition switch...didn't help...here's what's going on voltage wise.its like this at coil positive and soliniod I terminal

I think we need to see photos of the coil, new solenoid, old solenoid and how the wiring is set up.

Have you verified that the wiring is the same as the diagram I posted for you in the battery switch thread?

The difference is just that black wire that runs 2 gauge lights. I hooked it to the I terminal

I don't have points I have a pertronix igniter 2 marine 302 distributor and the 0.6 ohm coil that is for this system

Remove it please and see if the problem still exist
Please don't change stuff and then ask questions to same problem

What is the old wire that probably went to starter, and the new wire?
In old pic there was 2 red wires on the right side and now there is one?

Sorry I realize I sent 2 different ones. It has always been one wire to the starter. That second one is not hooked up to anything i hooked it to soliniod when I was trying to figure out the double shut off. I will send pictures right away as to how it is

You need to tidy up your wire usage. Don't use black for anything but ground. On the circuit drawing for your engine there is no green wire connected to the solenoid. Where does the green wire in your pictures go?

It's the dam exciter wire from alternator that I just had repaired...he put new regulator and fixed that wire...I took it off...all work great

Ok so you were back feeding 12 from alternator to coil then ? At least its fixed you’ve been through a lot getting this going

You can put a diode inline on the excite wire to the alt and stop the back feed. The diode only allows current to travel one way, into the alternator.
Painless performance sells a kit # 30720, comes with a couple of heat shrinks, butt splice and a diode to stop that back feed.

Or he could put the wire where it belongs, on a switched 12v. The positive side of the electric choke would be the easiest spot.
