I don't have points I have a pertronix igniter 2 marine 302 distributor and the 0.6 ohm coil that is for this system
This is the real answer. With Pertronix the wire from the I terminal to the coil is no longer needed. Don't know all the wiring changes, but I would guess there isn't a resistor wire from the key, its just a wire. Remove wire off I and the coil

There is still an issue with power going to the I terminal, but now who cares

Having the exciter wire off the coil is not an issue, and the ALT needs to be turned ON when the key is turned

I took I terminal off and it wouldn't do anything so I put it back on. There is a resistor wire that goes to coil and choke. Boat ran good. The volts are still not steady at the coil however and it seems to have a bit of a miss. I'm taking alt back again.

Today it won't do anything
Alright...fired boat up...pulled green wire and it stayed running....I shut it down and left green wire off...boat starts and shuts off with key without I terminal hooked up...the voltage at coil positive is sporadic jumping around. Now I'm really confused
Post 28 it was working

Right....if it's unhooked it won't start. I didn't try taking it off yesterday while it was running

If you have a Petronix unit in the distributor, then you should not have a resistor wire. Replace it with normal wire.

It is a complete petronix distributer and coil...ok I will remove that wire and replace it

I'm at the point the the motor needs either a complete rewire (everything goes), or need someone that understands how the electrical circuits work and can put their hands on it.

We're not getting anywhere. You need to understand why there is a problem having voltage on the I terminal and not on the wire, and why having 2 feeds to a petronix ignition is an issue and so far it does not appear so.

I believe you are right about me not understanding. I am going to find someone who does

I'm now confused on where you're at/what the problem is currently.
It's a 74 post long thread... I have to flick through to the beginning at times and read it all again to keep up with it. 🤦‍♂️
