Engine identification

I can't even find the year of the engine with the tag plate off the engine! What gives?

987124 is an ‘86-‘93 OMC Cobra, and it says 5.0 so that’s either a 302 or a 305. Specific year doesn’t matter much between those years, although the order number is the serial number where you can get the year of manufacture

if the distributor is in front, its a ford based motor. if the distributor is in back, its a chevrolet based motor
