Here are a few of the 'shrooms we picked up on Easter Sunday.

We let them soak in some water then lightly coated them in flour. Added just a little cracked black pepper then fried them in butter.

I'd do some bad deed's just to get my hands on some Morels. Some of best tasting in the world. Brings back memories of the spring shroom hunts in Northern Michigan.

Its still not quite warm or dry enuff here yet. I normally watch for the service berry trees to start to bloom and then away we go. If I had to pick a last meal it would be morels and fresh brookies. YUM YUM

Oyster mushrooms will be showing their faces soon. The chanterelles will be up later in the summer. Those are the only 2 I know for sure are safe and can identify without question. Never hunted morels. 'Shrooms, butter, salt and pepper............ Yum.......

Morels, the forest fire shrooms.
It is amazing how much destruction a forest fire does, but in the left over path it leaves behind these little beauties.

Luv that smokey goodness on a steak or in gravy MMMMMM

Nice! I found 3 morels in my backyard this time last year. Looked all over the rest of the yard but never found another one. Your post reminds me to take another look this year, thanks!

When I lived is southwest Michigan, I found some in really weird spots.
Like in a plantation planted forest of white pines.
The weirdest was on the shore of Lake Michigan before the dune line.
One Memorial Day weekend in the early 1970's we FILLED a canoe will going down the Pine River in mid/ccentral/western Michigan.

I've never been able to find morrels, maybe they just don't grow around here so much. Well that and with my luck I'd misidentify them and eat something poisonous.

I hear they can be tough to find. I believe they tend to blend in with their surroundings. There are "false" morels that you wouldn't want to eat. At least around here they look like a grotesque morel.

If you ever want to hunt wild mushrooms, go with someone who knows what they're doing first. Then you can see where they grow and exactly what they look like....

I used to be able to smell them, now my sense of smell is about shot and I can't smell much of anything.

Morels are pretty distinctive, with the sponge like appearance and both the stem and cap are hollow.

I found a nice bloom of sulfur shelf mushrooms on an oak tree while camping last fall. Cut off about a pound of the tender edge and fried it up. Ambrosia fer sure.

Man, you are killing me.

Brings back the memories of walking the woods with my granddad looking for those suckers. Usually he spotted them just before I stepped on them. Great times and Good Eating.

Unfortunately, we don?t find those here in Florida.

If you do go out shrooming a couple quick tips for those of you who dont know. The stem and cap are one piece on real ones. False morels they will separate between there. Also when you are picking them, dont pull them out of the ground pinch them off and leave the roots for next year. I use a onion sack to carry mine in so as you are walking around the spoors will fall out and seed themselves for next years crop of goodness.
