Re: Earthquake!!!

I just happened to be watching Weather Channel when they were talking about it. Evacuating fed buildings and schools in DC. Said it shook buildings from Atlanta to Boston. I think there was a 5.6 or so in Colorado yesterday. Is this because of the heat do you think? (chuckle)

Re: Earthquake!!!

I am surprised you do not get more on the east coast.
While you may not be in the west coasts "ring of fire zone" the whole east coast (Appalachian MT's) was the part of north america that broke away from europe/africa.

As they are saying you guys live on old rock hard so the waves/shaking are being felt really far out from the eppicenter.

Re: Earthquake!!!

The Colorado earthquake was this morning,

Attn: California Prepare for Evacuation, the state is falling off the Continent!!

as for why, the Colorado earthquake is most likely due to the amount of Natural Gas pulled out of the earth, we have had these smaller earthquakes for years in the southern part of the state

Re: Earthquake!!!

Have had a couple here in Oklahoma lately, although minor 2.8 to 3.4. Still, it's scary when the ground shakes and people 50-60 miles away are calling you & telling you all about it. We're used to the tornados but ya'll can keep the ground shakes.

so who felt the earthquake today, and where?

so who felt the earthquake today, and where?

Norfolk, Virginia, 12th floor, building moving so that the shades were swaying. Freaky. Alerady got a forest fire and hurricane on its way. What next, locusts?

Merged "Who felt Earthquake" with "Earthquake" thread. Carry on. Oh, I am an apathetic California native who suggests that this is run of the mill for us . . . :p

Re: Earthquake!!!

My wife said it made her and her, chair, desk etc, sway back and forth on the second floor of a metal office/wharehouse In Raleigh N.C.. I was driving and noticed nothing. I wish I had seen my dogs reaction, they're crashed on the deck. MIL says SILs dog is hiding and unusually shy since it happened. Thats one powerfull hurricane:eek::eek::D. Seriously I hope everyone fares well w Irene.

Felt it pretty good here in Lancaster PA too. Lasted about 10 secs or so. Went outside and walked around the building, no damage, back to work. Kind of glad that I wasn't down in Baltimore today.

Can only imagine how my dog at home is doing right now.

Now, time to brace for the hurricane, fun fun!!

Re: Earthquake!!!

A little scary. I was on the 6th floor of my building. The building started to sway a little then starting making all kinds of noise. Got the hell out of there quick.

In the emissions program I work for, we have satellite offices in different part's of the state. An email was sent out to all people involved in the program showing damage in the Fitchburg MA area. As you can see, it's quite extensive.... :D

Re: Earthquake!!!

Between Philly & Reading PA - shook for a good 10 secs or so. Windows, screens & nic-nacs rattling. My first thought was that the local nuke plant blew a head gasket. Pretty wild.

Re: Earthquake!!!

5.9 is nothing!!!!!

Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile did not immediately report infrastructure damage, although representatives said their networks were congested as the quake sent people scrambling for their phones.

"There were tremors, and everyone decided to call and say, `Did you feel it?'" Verizon Wireless spokesman Tom Pica said.

LOL

Re: Earthquake!!!

Nice of all the Cali folks to make fun of the east coast folks, many of whom have never been in an Earthquake. Not just hear but on every forum I'm on.
It is NOT nothing, it is the biggest on record for this part of the country, and stuff isn't built to quake standards.

But yeah, Cali people are cool ;)

Re: Earthquake!!!

Just kiddin with you guys. 5.9 is pretty big actually! It was also pretty shallow which can cause more surface movement but not felt as far away.

I was just a couple miles from the Northridge earthquake so I am used to the ones that feel like the house is being dropped 10 feet from in the air.

We think a 50 MPH wind feels like a hurricane too.
