dt 75 burning way to much fuel

hi im new to the forum so here we go. i have a 89 dt 75 motor runs good for the most part but it is burning way to much fuel. the prop is a 13-1/4 16 and im runnig it on a 16' tim's aluminum flat and at wot im pushing 5000 rpm which seems low but not sure. thanks for the help

have a lil more info if needed. just went out on the boat and ran 20 miles or so and went though about 6gal of gas. i was running around 4000rpm+.

short of getting all up in your boat (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=287818), fuel will be burn around 10% of HP rating per hour. Your 75 HP motor will burn approximately 7.5 gallons of fuel running wot. This is rule of thumb. You may need to adjust carbs.
