Crazy Craigs List experience today and a lesson about young people today. Long

I used to laugh at older people when I was younger when they said " ohhhh you young people today". Well I actually said that exact sentence today. I am on CL everyday looking for deals and Polaris Jet Skis to part out one ebay. Today I found a non-runner with trailer priced not much less than what it was new, and I I decided to call and see what was what. The guy that answered was obviously a kid not much older than 18 (you can tell by the jargon they use) and sounded like I woke him up. I asked some questions about the ski and made some small talk to break the ice a little bit. Once I felt he was awake enough to talk I asked if he had the title, and if the price was negotiable. He stated no to both of those questions. I used my lengthy pause technique to let what he just said sink in to his thick head. After about 5 LOOOONG seconds I told him that it is illegal in the state of Texas to sell a boat without a title (you cannot get re-prints, bonds, or lost titles here at all) and unless you were the person that bought it new, you are up a creek. Silence. I then told him about what these things are worth (2 to 400 bucks in non running condition) and he flipped out! He said I don't give a s**** about legality, and my Dad gave me this ski to sell and I could have what sold it for, so F*** off, and hung up. I was stunned! I tried to call him back and of course I got voicemail. Well about 30 seconds later I get a text from this kid calling me every name in the book, that I did not know what I was talking about, and that the price he was asking was cheap (trust me it was WAAAY high). Once again I was stunned. I sent him a very light hearted text back just saying that I was trying to negotiate a little, that he was obviously he was young, and took my tactics incorrectly. At the end of the text i said if he wanted to talk again I was open. His text back... "Go F**** yourself"

I thought is was terrible how he hid behind the texting instead of talking it out. Kids do not have the skills for human interaction. It all LOL LMAO BRB IDK!!!!!!! We are DOOMED!!!!!

Sheesh..

Guy sounds like a real jerk, but my generation isn't all that bad

he was probably just frustrated that you were right and he wasn't going to get as much as he wanted.. but I see no reason for him to have cursed at you

and also if he's going to talk such a tough game he could have manned up and at least called you.

People are necessarily mean... it's not just us "kids" -- I've had plenty of older people be really rude to me on CL when I try to negotiate...

wow, you just never know. You did the right thing, and it sounds like you don't even want to know the rest of the story in this case. What a bunch of maroons!

Well Jay, I say just for giggles go notify the auto theft squad and send them his way. Maybe he will change his tune about not caring about legality. That would be a real nice go f**k yourself right back.

You guys are right, it is not just kids. I did not want to offend anyone. I think more and more of the younger kids today are out of touch with human interaction though.

I thought I would get away from that when I went to college... but there are idiots everywhere and they will find you. I'm finding this even more true in my second year here...

he is a kid... might not even be legal for him to sign a bill of sale. Call his dad and see what he says about an illegal boat sale! Although, more often than not, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You mentioned his generation, but I'd be willing to be the response you get from his dad would be worse...

I just read your resto thread Zopper. Very nice work. I am glad to see you learning this stuff at a young age. Study hard!

This would not be the 96 for $800 in Brendbrook? I had to search the ads to satisfy my curiosity.

You seem a little confused on the lost titles, here's a link to the Texas DMV on how to get a duplicate title.

Post his ad...I see no reason we can't totally bombard this kid with calls, texts, emails, etc. Just to help him sell it, naturally
