If you don't want/need the SL to be enclosed then cut the foam. I prefer a Layer of CSM and a layer of 6oz fabric for a deck.

How long should I wait in between gel coat layers? Also wait for it to be tacky?

When it's tacky put down the next, last batch requires 10% surfacing wax to be added to the mix for proper curing.

So I got the supplies today.
a few questions , bought clear gel coat and pigments. Is clear gel coat ok for pigmentation?
Do I pigment all 3 coats or just the last one?
Ist 1708 ok for the deck too?

It's preferred to tint Clear Gel. Tint all layers. 1708 is Overkill for the deck. It's Great for tabbing the sides to the hull but for the main slab CSM and 6oz is what I prefer. Less resin and nice smooth finish.

I suppose it is find to glass over the polyurethane foam. Correct?
What type of roller would you recommend when applying the gel coat?
And again, thanks for the help Woodonglass

Do I have to wet the foam out like with plywood before putting the first layer of glass?

What about the roller for the gel coat?

Thanks

So the gelcoat underneath the ski locker is now a cracking mess. I is there a simple fix to seal this up? Tons of Flex-Seal...lol? Thoughts? Comments?. The boat has always taken on a bit of water whenever it is on the water....I have never been able to find out from where...I have crawled underneath the whole thing and watch things in the engine compartment for an extended period of time....still never seen a thing....My question is...if the bottom of the boat has no holes in it...then were is is the water coming from. I see all the work this guy did....how much was your costs? My boat is in fantastic shape otherwise...luckley its not at the dock much...so it wont sink....although the automatic bilge pump does work....once again...were is the water comin in from?

Bmac 417, I spent somewhere between 350 to 400, all inclusive.
Attached are a few pictures of my progress.

Fiberglass:

Gel coating:

I'll close the deck this week and boat will be in the water next weekend.

Thanks Woodinglass for your expertise

Hi everyone,
New to this forum, new to boat restoration...looking for some advice.
I bought a 1998 regal 1900 LSR 3 years ago.
ski locker gel coat is cracked. It seems to be a common issue for that boat.
I'd like to get it fixed before putting it in the water this year.
Hey Blych are you still around on this forum? I just bought the same boat with the same issue, wanted to get some insight.
