Wow my memory is terrible. I think the grey carpet will be contrasted nicely by the blue vinyl.

A 7" pedestal may be something you're not going to find in one of the nice cast and machined AL setups. At 7" off the deck I'm not sure who would be able to see it unless they were laying on the deck. I would repaint the old ones and make them look nice and glossy, all anyone would ever see at best is a few inches of the post.

Forgot to mention that another option is to build a seat box at the right height that you could cover with your carpet and have a cutout on the side to store things inside the box.

Springfield Plug-In pedestal posts are available in 5.5", 9", and taller. They are AD(driver) rated when used with the appropriate base and seat mount.

The blue carbon fiber looks great, CH.

I second the seat box idea. You run out of storage room real quick in a 16 footer and and well thought storage is a plus.

Ok, here's what I got up to this weekend. Saturday I managed to remove the rub rail and carpet al the gunnels and get that baby back on. That was more work than I anticipated but it turned out nice. I may use the trim that runs along the inside of the gunnels on that bottom edge to hold the carpet under if that makes sense?

Then on Sunday I sorted out my rear casting deck structure. The splashwell was the bulk of the work there and I'm happy with the way it turned out. I might add a little more aluminum angle in places for securing the deck down to the structure but overall I'm happy with how strong it will be and it should function nicely. I still need to add some ventilation and figure out where the steering cable, gas line, and throttle contronls will run through. I also need to paint that splashwell and transom that will be exposed.....and install drain tubes....man the list never ends.

I'll definatly think on that one. I picked up some pedestals while I was doing a parts run on the weekend but I can always return them. I'd really like to raise my consoes like wheeldriver did so that will be in the works for me and woud make using pedestas more viable with the height options they come in.

Very productive weekend I'd say. The casting deck looks nice. The splashwell does as well.

Thanks! I went pretty hard this weekend. I'm off to Cuba with some buddies on Sat and then the May long weekend at the cottage after that so I won't be able to work on the boat for 3-4 weeks now.

enjoy the trip! your boat is looking awesome. I may be stealing some of your building strategy. Im going with a tiller, and wasnt going to put a splashwell in, But now I might do a small one like that. Good work!

I picked this up for $300 this week. It needs some cosmetic work but it's very clean under the hood. The previous owner said it didn't have spark on one cylinder and his glasser was totally rotten so he threw in the towel. I took a bit of a risk without doing a compression check but I'll do that before I sink any money into this thing.

It looks like it might of had power trim on there but I can't find any pics online that have similar lines running to it. There is no motor under there just the lines connected to the big piston. Any ideas? I have a CMC trim but if I could get this thing working for 1-200 bucks I could sell the CMC for more.

Thanks Pal! Let me know if you have any questions about how I did it. I'd be happy to help. You boat is coming along nicely. I'll certainly be taking notes for when I decide to paint next year.

Cheers, see you in a week!

It kind of looks like an external trim pump was used like older Mercs. Definitely home made looking, but if it can be made to work, why not? Don't list the CMC until you know for sure.

GA pegged it. There would be a pump motor mounted on the Starboard side bracket.

Long overdue update. Things have really slowed down since my trip. I haven't had as much time to work on the boat as before but I'm starting to get back on it. This week I got the consoles and windshields in. I was going to raise them but decided to keep it simple for now.

That looks great! I went with vinyl on my floor, but I'm sort of wishing I went with carpet. Vinyl will wash right off, but man oh man is it ever hot! I find it too hot to go barefoot, and I love to be barefoot in my boat. Yours looks super comfy!

The carpet came out looking real nice, great way to soften and cover the gunnels. :thumb:

No surface is cool on bare feet in mid-day sun. The only way to be comfortable is with a bimini casting some shade. I've had carpet, vinyl and rusto deck armor on my boat decks and I think carpet was by far the hottest surface as it sucks in heat without reflecting it.

That surprises me. The vinyl in mine is so hot on my toes, that I jump up on a front bench (carpet) to give them some relief. I have enough carpet left over from my build that I think I can make some removeable "area" mats. It's worth a shot anyways.
Sorry to steer your thread away Cowhune. :):)

Hey no worries at all. Watermann is right, the carpet does still get quite hot in the sun still. I used the same stuff for my temporary front casting deck last summer and a few times I had to throw my sandals on because of the heat. It sounds like there aren't many ways around it. At the very least, like you said, I do find carpet more comfortable on bare feet when the heat isn't an issue so I'm happy with it.

and that my friends is what it's all about!

I see often the guys who think it would be a great idea to build their decks out of aluminum. can you imagine the skillet effect?

Heres a couple teaser pics. Sorry i ran out if daylight. I made some good progress this week. Still some loose ends to tie up but weather pending I might splash it this weekend....it's not looking so good on that front though.
