We have goon 41 days now without a single new case of the virus. There are no cases active in the whole province, things almost feel normal for now.

And to keep it that way, we can't visit. Wish it was normal down here so we would be welcome in other countries again.

My recent experience (Ontario Canada). I haven't been on the site for a while as I was fairly ill. About 4 weeks a go started getting a lot of mucus in my chest and a cough then I would get shortness of breath for sometimes 20 minutes. As it got worse I made an appointment to get tested for C-19. I had to answer a series of health related questions on the phone and answered an overview of where I have been and with whom I had come in contact with. I was to immediately start a 14 day quarantine. The health worker asked if my wife who is an essential worker be able to move out of the house until results are in.. Not doable. A few days later I had an appointment to get tested at our local hospital. Went to the drive in test area and 2 nurses came out to the truck, checked my Health Card then stuck a long plastic stick up each of my nostrils until they hit the back of my sinus. Uncomfortable but not extremely painfull. Results in 3 days, negative thankfully. However the individual on the phone told me something I was surprised at. The test is only 70% accurate. That's not good. I had to complete my quarantine. A telephone appointment with my family Doc and some anti biotics faxed to the pharmacy and all is good. A few times I was somewhat concerned I might be a statistic. Once I was able to go out I was somewhat depressed how some people in our society are ignoring what our scientists and politico's are begging us to do. I see young children under their parents supervision as well as seniors basically ignoring social distancing, no masks, no social distancing. This past weekend was a scorcher and the beaches here along the lake were packed. Cottages had 4 cars or more parked in the driveways and on lawns. I know they all don't live under the same roof. Blow up water toys with swimmers hanging off them were everywhere. Small swim platforms were packed with people shoulder to shoulder. If that continues we may never get out of this thing before we have Covid-20 to deal with.

My wife is a sub teacher and of course lost her job. Her other business is crafting and of course all her venues have been cancelled. Our sons are essential workers but both of their employers mandated they stay at home and work online. I'm retired and my only job is to cut the grass, drink beer and polish the boat.

Bottom line is that we have come in contact with no one. If we aren't in the pool we are in the boat. This oppressive heat is taking its tole. (now 9th record day)

Old Ironmaker - stay safe and be safe and all will be well. We're rooting for you from the other side of Erie.

At some point we’re going to have start living again . This crap ain’t going anywhere anytime soon .. There’s no silver bullet that’s going to make it go away .. When do we go back to some kind of normal .. 6 months A year . 2 years .5 years ? We have to try as best we can to protect the ones most at risk and just press on unfortunately..
What other options are there ?

You are absolutely right sphelps. If the world economy is not kick started soon it may never run well again. But how do we do that with this pandemic hanging over the head of the worlds workers? Every person is part of the workforce in one way or another. I believe strongly that the new normal will be people venturing out in the workforce as well as in public willing to risk becoming ill. All preclusions will have to be taken to minimize exposure as well as possible. The "Exposure Police" will enforce laws that make it mandatory to mask up and laws to ensure social distancing within reason. There will no longer be in store shopping, everything will be ordered online then delivered to ones home including boxes of food stuffs and medications. Back in the 60's we had our daily milk and bread delivered, and that was normal. Companies offering these services are popping up everyday. We have used them and it works just had did in the 60's. Doctor's appointments will be done by telephone or video chat in 99% of cases. I have had 3 such appointments since the start of this year and it worked out very well. It's a 2 hour return drive to my G.P.'s and I didn't need to leave my living room. Medical personnel will start to do house calls where examinations are required, like when I was a kid. The new normal in the 60's was having to make an appointment to see a Dr. in their office. I remember my Mom complaining that she couldn't do that with 3 kids under 10 years old and the family only had 1 car, a 2 car family was very rare in a working class neighborhood.

We will survive this thing and will be well prepared for the next pandemic because there will be another.

Thanks Jim. I guess it will be next summer I see you at Canal Fest. The 1st time in over 70 years the Family reunion that was to be held in Pinewoods Park this year has been cancelled. The 1st reunion was held at my Great Grand parents yard to welcome back my 3 Great Uncles from overseas. They lived not far from the canal across the street from Hurtibeise garage, not certain the street name. Tremont comes to mind. You stay well as well, we both have the same jobs but I don't cut grass, I worked as a Blast Furnace Foreman for over 20 years, this spell of heat is close to Blast Furnace heat. A big thunderstorm last night and it's still raining here, I hope this breaks the heat as the weatherman says. You guys up there stay safe as well. My relatives in NT always laugh when I say up there. NT is actually NE of us.

I'm glad to see that you're still around and doing okay.

This thing just isn't going away. My wife just got out of voluntary home isolation 5 days ago but is going back in now! :confusion:

Yet another of her co-workers has at-home family who are sick. The entire family went to the ER last night and several were showing symptoms at that time. The doc said that the daughter was showing a number of Covid-19 symptoms. They were all tested for flu, strep and Covid-19. A little while ago the strep and flu tests came back Negative but the Covid-19 test results aren't available yet.

This carp is getting old. :mad-new:

Hi there BWR, hoping all is well in your home. I was surprised to hear from the nurse on the other side of the line that the test I took, a swab deep into each nostril, was only 70% accurate. And I hear ya, this thing is getting really tiring. We can see the finish line but can't seem to cross it. Just keep keep on keepin on.

Wish I could remember exactly what someone said this morning, but the gist of the comment was the reason for COVID being out of control is people. Being upset by temporary halt in normal activities and ignoring guidance leads to these spikes. Death and lasting side effects don't seem to faze many of us.

Like the story about the 60 year old guy railed on Twitter against the Ohio restrictions in a tweet on April 15th and on May 15th his obituary saying he died of COVID.

Also a 30 year old man who attended a COVID party hosted by hosted by someone diagnosed with coronavirus and his last words were “I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it's not.”.

Draw your own conclusions and protect yourself from those thinking it will be you, not them.

Yep ^^^ seems lunacy is boundless....

Finally, WV is #1 in something in the US...... person to person contact transmission of CV19

Back in WV for 1nite this weekend, headed to middle of nowhere PA for 1 more week, then back to Martinsburg, WV to the long term job site, albeit w a new job title. Job isnt a promotion, but the title sort of is.....

Yeah the covid parties are like hurricane parties, imo. And the whole mask doesn't work thing is complete idiocy and I am continually shocked at my friends who fall into that category. It's middle school science, not too hard to understand.

Two staff members at my wife's school have tested positive for Covid-19 and this morning they shut down the school until further notice. My wife is going to continue her self-quarantine for 11 more days. Again. She's doing that in order to keep me safe. This is the FOURTH time for her since the pandemic started. And the boy was locked down for 2 weeks as well.

We're very sure that one of the staff members who tested positive is the 62 y.o. woman who refused to wear a mask. SMH

^ problem americans are not understanding is waiting until this point to shut down is too late. now potentially hundreds of kids bring that home and hundred more parents take it to work, the store, the resturant whatever and before ANYONE aside from the 2 originally testing posative show symptoms its off to the races.

MLB And NBA teams keep shutting down training camps because of positive tests. NFL playing, I don't know how.

How in the world can schools be restarted with face to face classrooms and some states say masks aren't required with no social distancing? I'm glad I have no school age kids.

Yeah, having my 14 y.o. stepson is more of a headache now than it was before the pandemic.

Fortunately, our county has eSchool set up and we're enrolling him to just stay home and get educated from here.

Even after a vaccine comes out, we'll likely keep him home for awhile just to be sure that the vaccine is effective and long lasting.
