Man you guys are brutal... Funny but brutal. My wife would be proud to carry the torch from here on out. I still have too many plans for this old boat to get rid of it now. Happy boating!

Re: Considering going to the dark side...

Never understood the obsession with Starcraft. I don't see them too much in MN where every citizen is legally obligated to own a boat but when I do they are usually beat up, old junk floating ot on the lake. What I will say is I've seen a huge surgence of very high end ski boats but nobody is ever using them for tow sports. The kind with the tower that looks more like a radar arch that are so custom painted you do a double take. Again they must know something that I don't but I see a lot of retirees riding in these things.

How do you not see them in MN?
I can't nor wont go into the details of our superior tin boats..but how many 40 year old glassers have you seen that can go from "old floating junk" to like new with a few months work and not a lot of cash?

The MN chapter of the Mob is being scrambled as we speak.

SHORT VERSION: MODERN DOMESTICATED PRIMATES ARE STUPID, SHALLOW, AND WONDER WHY THEY'RE IN DEBT. fish caught from beat up old junk taste the same.....

p.s. no one will confuse Bunker's boat with beat up old junk. one of them high end ski boats, maybe, esp if he adds the rosewood trim...

I don't know. I go to a lot of lakes too. If I see one it is generally old and beat or newer but really basic. I've seen a few glass bowriders models as well. They have some neat features but then fall short in some areas. Don't get me wrong, a lot of what I see is floating junk regardless of brand or type of boat. There seems to be a turning over of older boats to newer models though. I think that a lot of the older stuff has just finally succumbed to age and people are moving on to newer boats. I see more Starcraft tent trailers than boats. I will have to scramble the MN Bayliners and Larson chapters to meet the Starcraft mob down at the access. The VEC owners can get pretty nasty.

That's funny. Don't know why debt is brought up into the equation though. I prefer to fish from beat up old junk and cruise in the nicer stuff.

Re: Considering going to the dark side...

maybe i mentioned it because most of us are building our boats on a shoestring one paycheck at a time so we owe nothing, and end up with less $ in the total boat than those guys with the snazzy boats have to borrow just to get the paint job or tower or stereo?

hope you didn't think my comment was a slam at you, just at the foolz who spend the price of a house on a kustom painted go-boat. or anyone who fails to understand the concepts of "finite", "finance charges", and "depreciation" and run their lives accordingly....

I gotcha. I actually wonder how many people do finance say a 50k tow sports boat. I realize you don't know me but where those concepts are concerned, I get it, hence my now 9 year old sig boat with no plans to replace any time soon.

Re: Considering going to the dark side...

I would like to see a pic of the OP's boat. I have never liked the "glass" stuff, my first boat..finally at 50yrs is aluminum, tin or whatever. I agree with the ease of working on tin boats. I have a couple friends with glass boats and all they do is cuss them. I will have to start a thread of all the comforts I have made with stuff around in the buildings, and a few things off the internet. Good Luck to you either way OP.

OK - Since you haven't given up on the Tinny I'll withdraw the membership change. I saw the new stuff in your SS thread. I think you were just teasing us. :D

Duke - here's a link to Bunker's SS

Re: Considering going to the dark side...

This thread keeps getting better. What changed my mind was my wife and the fact that the seller will not be at the lake this weekend. He told me he was bringing the boat back to town. I wanted to do a true side by side comparison.

Any ways have you seen the correct craft forum?!? That place is dead! How could I leave you all...I am sticking around.

I rode around Lake Powell for four days on a Cobalt 220, and it was awesome!

Glad to hear you won't be joining the dark side bunker. I'm from mn as well and I see plenty of starcrafts cruisin around.

Don't forget the regional differences in these observations. MN and FL are like night and day.

True, though I am a SoCal transplant..WEST SIDE BE-AAAACHES!

The crestliner looks good but 40 big ones for cosmetics. Yikes my 22 holiday would give it a good race. and my 16 SS will fish and ski just as well. for as you said a fraction of the cost. Makes fixing up the older Starcrafts VERY worrthwhile.

Re: Considering going to the dark side...

+ I love having something nice that I did :)

My wife loves telling people I built the Jet, it makes me proud :D

Tin = easy

If the floors rot, I know I can fix it over a few weekends

Transom = no big deal also :D

Glass boat.. not as easy
Split the upper and lower half.. forget that!

Glad to see you sticking around, that SS of yours is too nice to part with, and you would be real lonely with out the mob to pester you.
