Cleaning grease and sand off prop shaft.

Took the props off my bravo 3 to have them checked and smoothed out by a prop shop. The prop shaft has old grease with sand embedded on the prop shaft. What is the best way to clean this off? Carb cleaner? Just rags?

Brakeclean should do the trick.Wipe off as much as possible with rags first.Depending on how much sand is in the splines ,you may want to consider sliding a screwdriver down each spline to make sure everything is out of the groove.Charlie

Use a wire brush to remove compacted sand and grease.

Flush with WD, wipe down then apply a water proof grease to the shaft

Then clean the wire brush with brake cleaner or whatever solvent you have handy!

The Purple Stuff cleaner is a very good degreaser. Also, paint thinner will work well. Pretty much any solvent you have laying around should work.

The good news is that the prop shaft is not fragile, so you can use most anything plus a wire brush (if necessary) to get her clean.
