88Regal_2.jpgHello
New to forum. I bought a 1988 regal medallion for 500 put anther 200 in it water pump seal tune up. Has a 470 engine runs good has some oil leakes. Had it out a couple time runs good. Bad news floor is soft. Im going for the worst for the floor runners and trasom. Question is it worth fixing or part it out bye a newer boat but still might run in to the same problem with floors being soft. Im going to be doing the repair myself and maybe some help from friends doubtfull. What do people think about theses boat.

Thanks
George,lisa,Tyler and the mutts

Re: Cheap boat

Read up on Seacast in case you need to do the transom. I'm guessing you run it only on the lakes. You should see signs of transom trouble before it fails.

The floor is a job you and your buddies can do. Remove the seats, cut the floor edges with a router, and lay in new wood, seal, and carpet. I end up doing my boat about every 10 years. And it lives outside with no cover.

I'd run that boat till it dies. No reason to kill it early.

Re: Cheap boat

. My dad had a way nicer boat with a 470 ( 3.7L "488" ). Well cared for 3 owner boat. Full camper canvas, immaculate cond ect... Rod started knocking in the motor. Parts were hard to find, and the only replacement engine that will work without much trouble is the 3.0L. Advice my dad got from various marine services was basically to part it out and take a chainsaw to the hull. My dad didn't want to mess around any more and sold it to a marine dealer for little of nothing.

That said, I would be fine with that Regal. your only in it $700 now. drop a new stringer for a 3.0L so when it breaks down, you've got an easy swap
