Re: Chatahoochie River

Maybe things will work for all in July. If not, there's plenty of time, especially once it starts cooling down. I'm sure we'll be able to get something together. Glad to hear from you, Jim. I'm glad things are going well. Looking forward to meeting you.

We are meeting up at Highland boat ramp on Lake Eufaula on 6/22 at around daylight. We hope to leave out and be at the Eufaula lock when it opens at 8:00 am. We are leaving early to try to make the last lock in Seminole before it closes at 4:00 pm. Anyone interested in going can email me at eddiej65 at hotmail dot com for more information.

Raygunn1,

Keep us posted. I expect it is going to be a 3 to 4 hour trip. When I did it years ago there was a couple shallow spots just below Columbus where a creeks joined the river.

You may want to check the Apalachicola part of your trip, the river is the lowest I have ever seen it, you can literally walk across it in some spots. I put my 17' bowrider in at the Blountstown Landing two weeks ago to check it out, and you would go maybe a quarter mile trim up ease over a sand bar then go again. I had to get out and push over a couple also. I was told the river was deeper the further north you went but I gave up and went home. Went to the Flint in Bainbridge, Last weekend and was a great ride. went south almost to the Chatahoochie Lock. First time I had been on the flint it was great. stopped on a sand bar and took a dip, dang little Crappies agravated you though. There were plenty of gators to see also, Saw one probably 10' or better.

I'm in south GA. I have been on boats my entire life, well almost. I grew up on a bass boat and I've graduated to bigger and better things. I like boating and long walks on the beach. How about you?;)

I love boating and long walks on the beach... with my wife.;)

Nice one Mrs VH.:D

Even better one Mr Veritas Honus!

Your tag could have been sooooooo true....No fall, however high, ever hurt anyone... It's that sudden stop at the end...

Re: Chatahoochie River

This sounds like taking a trip on the other long river route in the Southeast--The Tennessee-Tombigbee System running from Pickwick Lake, TN to Mobile.

Politicians spent a zillion $ building canals, dams and locks only to see it used very rarely. I only see water skiers using it for its zero wave waters and a few pulp wood barges.

The yacht guys use the "Big Ditch" going north and south out of the Midwest to and from Florida in order to avoid the very meandering, very dangerous Mississippi River.
I understand that the Tenn/Tom is just so boring, with few cities, houses and boat docks along they way.

To those with trailerable boats, the Tennessee River system is the premier cruising river in the U.S., with boat docks, hotels, cities and state parks along the way. From Paducah to Knoxville, it just gets more beautiful the farther you go east. KY, TN, & AL all have state park marinas and hotels that are fabulous.

I also put my 21' bowrider in the appalachicola and ended up with pretty serious prop damage, being new to the area im not real sure where good boating is. was very curious about the bainbridge area on the flint, is it good boating? can you ski there? how about sandbars?
Also me and my s/o love boating and have little success in meeting any fellow boaters in this area yet, but we would love to get in on some of these river trips, if you all wouldn't mind another boat in the mix!! safe boating!! (my email is bohoward1@hotmail.com)

Re: Chatahoochie River

Does anyone know of anybody that did this trip in the last year? I would like to take this trip this year and have been researching different web pages. I found a jet ski "adventure" company that does it however I have a bowrider.

Also if anyone has links to any good river trips I would really appreciate the information.
