Ha, I did mine too. the first time without the shaft seal since I didn't wanted to split the bearing pack and screw up preload. then the leak like yours. had to take it apart again but it was the style with the spacer in between, so no worries about the preload setting. And since the ring was off, unis had to be changed too.

Bald Eagle is a fantastic lake. It’s a little small compared to Raystown, but doesn’t get near as rough. A really nice quiet setting, and the water is fairly warm. Just have to watch out for the pontoon boats. The marina rents a bunch of them out and those people don’t understand etiquette. I had to dump my wakeboarder a couple times because these idiots cross in front of my bow. They just smile and wave, oblivious To what’s going on around them. :loco: I usually rent a slip for a few days. Their camping is really busy up there this year.

Yeah, it seemed daunting at first, but really quite easy once you start digging in. Once I got a good look at how the carrier assembly came apart the seals and o-rings were simple. No special tools required. Since I found the offending leaky seals, I didn’t take the time to pressure test the drive.

Once I put the boat away, a friend of mine twisted my arm into a snowmobiling trip. Ok he didn’t have to twist too hard. I used to own a couple older Arctic Cats when I was younger, and when we used to get snow in South Central Pennsylvania.

He has a newer 4 stroke Arctic Cat and a Ski Doo. We trailered them up to Old Forge NY in the Adirondacks. It took about 5 minutes and I was hooked again. Anyone that knows me knows I hate the cold, but man was it fun. And I never got cold. We rode out to Placid which was over 180 mile round trip. Awesome.



Once I got home I had to have one. I only mention it here because snowmobiles are in essence a boat for frozen water. :wink: What in the heck you got in the back of your truck?? :lol:



Got a great deal on a 2006 Polaris 700 that the PO was tired of working on. He pulled the motor trying to fix a coolant leak, only to put everything back together and not fix the leak. I did some research and replaced a $40.00 seal and cleaned up all his mistakes and grime. No more leak. Got the sled for less than half what it’s worth. Got her all prettied up.....the way I like it.

I guess the CEO of outdoor world decided local gander mountains were not going to be a thing anymore, and holy crap did they have one heck of a sale last fall. I got lots of maintenance items for the boat, as well as a new set of Faria gauges for $114.00. I also got a DJI drone for about $600 off. Crazy.

I decided to update the Chap’s dash panel. The single square pod look is soooooo 1990. “Hey man, Don Johnson called and wants his boat back”.....ha ha.



I used cardboard to trace out the templates, then traced the templates on 1/8” thk Lexan. I changed up a few of the gauge positions slightly. I wrapped all the Lexan panels in carbon fiber wrap.

I replaced all the double throw toggles with single throw and modified the wiring to accommodate. Also included a USB charging port....because, well, we all gotta make sure our phones are charged so we can post to social media....:gossip:




The new gauges and fresh carbon fiber gave the dash panel a fresh clean look.

I had some more of the carbon fiber wrap so I decided to replace the old black bilge vent covers on the sides of the boat. They were both cracked and weathered and the port side was broken.



I had thought about making a custom fiberglass scoop for both sides but wasn’t sure it was worth the effort. Who knows, maybe some day. Until I get really ambitious I decided to use vinyl wrapped LEXAN. I made some custom UHMW stand off posts using a plug cutter and shaped those to match the proper profile with my belt sander. Stainless steel hardware to attach.



We are getting a lot of use out of the boat, so not much is getting done as far as improvements. Even my boy Dash is loving being on the water. This is definitely an all inclusive “non-mask-wearing” family activity. We absolutely love this boat, and the time we get to escape the stupidities of what some are calling the new norm.

You and me both. I’m getting too old for all the BS I’m seeing. The hypocrisy is absolutely blatant at this point.

So interestingly enough, the gauge set I purchased did not have a trim gauge. Well there was no way I was going to use the old one. I purchased one off evilBay and installed it. Of course I failed to realize the Chesapeake model Faria gauges come in a chrome bezel, or black....... Guess which one I got, the black bezel. So I figured oh well, I’ll replace it later.

So I hook it up, when the drive goes up, the gauge goes down.....what the. So I do 3 minutes of research and find out Mercruiser sending units are opposite most everyone else. :facepalm:

So I ordered and installed the correct gauge....with the correct bezel. :loco:

Lesson learned.

Had a day or so where the river was kind of crappy. Some storms rolled through and stirred things up a bit. The river dropped from 86 down to 76-ish degrees. There was some debris, so it was better to stay home. I figured I would get rid of the staining on the bottom of the hull. It has been there from the previous owner.....I just wasn’t a fan of laying on my back and waxing.

First step was to use “The Worx” toilet bowl cleaner. I put it in a spray bottle am treated the hull being careful not to get this on my galvanized trailer. What I wasn’t careful about was getting this on the concrete floor. :yell::facepalm:

The Worx did great on the stains, it also etches concrete. Word to the wise, wet your floor and trailer down BEFORE spraying the hull.

Anyway, rinse, dry, polish and wax. Been to the river several times after, and any Potomac gold left on the hull wipes right off. Sealing the gelcoat prevents stains from reoccurring, even exhaust stains under the swim deck from idling.




I guess one of these days I really need to get that ugly a**ed trailer looking better, ha ha.

Yep it almost time for my winter clean up.

I sit on a bucket under the swim deck everytime i got out and clean the drive back of boat and trailer. It is amazing how nasty they are after just one outing.

I used the couch attachment of the carpet shampooer yesterday and did the entire boat cover with simple green. anti mold and mildew inhibitor. Wow my back is sore. Lifting the shampooer to the bench i stood on. And leaning over at arms length for 4 hours. That cover sure needed it and looks a million times better.

Luckily my boat gets the royal semi-climate controlled garage treatment, so she stays pretty clean. That said, I got caught in a freaking torrential down pour Yesterday that drenched the boat. First time I have ever had the bilge pump kick on in auto. You know all those bits of plastic ends that the kids rip off of snacks......let’s just say the bilge pump is not a sewage pump. Luckily I bought a pump that is easy to unclip from the base and clean out. Just glad the plastic didn’t get stuck in the tubing going through the gunwale.

All that to say that I have her all torn apart with three fans running to dry out. I already used the spot bot to suck the carpet somewhat dry, and what the heck, clean it too while I was at it. Things can get pretty musty if you don’t take the time to dry it out. The fuel tank coffin was very damp. I use an HVAC duct booster to force air through the pick-up opening, then out the sending unit opening. Luckily today I’m working second shift so I have time.

My trick is a box fan in the middle and bow open a foot or so and across the back a foot. It is a windstorm int here but it dries real fast.

Yeah, probably not....but it is.

I let my daughter captain a little bit while I sat with the Admiral and enjoyed a fairly slow cruise. I was admiring that pretty wake when I heard the depth alarm, and before I could reach the helm, bang. She hit.

My girl was pretty upset, as you can imagine, thinking she ruined the boat. I steered back toward the middle of the river. My daughter was avoiding a pontoon when she hit, but was cutting it too close to the bank. Mistakes happen, and I should have been paying more attention.

Despite her protests I made her take the helm again. There were no vibrations, so we cruised back to the dock. It was the end of the day any way.



I bought the same pitch prop, a 21” pitch. The old prop was 13-3/4” diameter, the new one is 15-3/8” diameter. That seems huge.





Stainless steel skeg guard installed. This is the Megaware brand. I really like it. I used black RTV and loctite on the hardware securing the skeg.
