Changing Q4 Seat Post

One of the major quirk of the q4 that I found annoying was the low seat height of the captain's chair. Is it possible to change the post? If so would anyone in the know let me know which kind to replace it with?

Usually when we're under way I'm standing but being able to sit and have eyes above the windshield would be nice.

Re: Changing Q4 Seat Post

I just replaced the back to back and helm seat in my 2004 Q4.. I installed 2 new 7 1/4 inch springfield pedestals (100 each) and two new seats out of a mariah.. that was after I redid the deck with durabak..

Looks much better than the original setup and the posts are adjustable (not in height).. you can see pics in this thread...

INteresting,s o you have to take out the entire base? I was hoping not to disturb that part and just change the post to a pneumatic one with height adjustment.

Anyone else purchased and/or installed a Wise Adjustable Height Locking Seat Pedestal with Slide?? I have a 07- Q6SF and agree the low seat height is almost uncomfortable. Line of sight would be helped with raising the seat. Will this bolt up to stock seats in my boat?

Re: Changing Q4 Seat Post

After reading these posts and speaking to my boat fixer man, I have just purchased the Wise pedestal fo my Q4.
No retailers here in Dubai stock this sort of thing and my man said it would cost a hell of a lot more for him to manufacture a post.
Hopefully it will get here soon and I'll let you know how it goes. (the post & packing was same cost as the pedestal !!!!)

Wish me luck.

Well, I have been delayed posting on this because _my_ "boat fixer man" said he couldn't get in the Veade as cheap as what I found here (thanks iBoats), so he suggested I purchase it and bring it in and they can swap it out while they re-upholster my captains chairs and save some cash.

So, I made the purchase, waited patiently, and now its in. I dropped it off at the shop today, but not before I snapped a few pics for my fellow Tahoe owners....so far it looks like a good piece of gear.

Cool, let us know how it fits into the Q4 as I may end up getting one of these if it fits well without much work.

Please let us know if the hole patterns line up, worse case so we don't have to drill new holes in the floor.

Hold out guys and gals, I just picked up the boat today. The two pics show the Veada post at its "lowest" setting......uh, not sure I am feeling this.

Strange, I see lots of Garrelicks on iboat but no Veada, what size was yours? 2 7/8 is what the dealer told me as the original size.
Thanks for taking the pics btw.

My WISE seat post arrived from the States a few days ago and it was real easy to fit.
The holes lined up (just) with the old holes so no issues there.
Only problem I have is that the seat is too high on it's lowest setting.
It really need to be 6 inches lower with the ability to raise if required.

I think I'll remove it and get my boat fixer man to cut and reweld the base.

How tall is your post?

Re: Changing Q4 Seat Post

I have come up against a major issue since changing my seat post to the higher one.

I was out all day yesterday and returned to dock in some pretty rough water.
The extra height on the seat coupled with the rough sea has loosened the base screws due to the extra leverage.

I'll be changing the post back to original and hopefully the floor is not damaged.

I would strongly recommend against going for a pedestal that high.
The one I fitted was also too high to be comfortable in my Q4 but the leverage effect could do some serious damage to your floor.

The only way I would be happy fitting a taller pedestal would be if it could be secured with a metal plate under the floor and bolted. Not sure if you can get in there though.

I'm going to refit my seat tomorrow for the weekend and only hope that the floor isn't too damaged to accept the screws.

Did you use normal self tapping screws?
I was thinking of using toggle bolts when/if I do mine.
