Re: Cap Sealant and screws?

Alright YD, I hear ya loud n clear! Your explanation of the hull joint is something I had never thought about but it makes sense. I know most people say to use what was originally on the boat and it was silicone. It seems everybody has their own way of making this joint and I appreciate all of the replies from everybody... it's all good info to me because I like to see how others do it.

I believe I will be sticking to silicone, one of many reasons because none of the other mentioned products are available around here. Some mentioned 4200 is at Lowes, but not in my Lowes (or HomeDepot), nor is the 3m marine silicone or 3m 4000. Seems Lowes has tons of sealer-type products but most are aimed toward home builders.

I can say for sure I won't be glassing the joint. It wasn't glassed before and I'm out of resin so it aint happenin!

One thing I find crazy (confusing?) is that folks that do this stuff for a living are so solid on using two totally different kinds of products for the same thing (silicone and 4200). To be so sure, there must have been a good history using the product for at least those people. Anyways...

Thanks all for the advice... I'll make sure to let yall know how it turns out... within the next two weeks I hope. Looks like I'll be working on bellows n stuff before the cap.

:)
