hey guys i have a 85 or 86 glasstream boss 180 bass boat i think the transom is shot i have play on back of boat when you push on outboard,i took off the engine and i want to know if i can cut the splashwell out to remove the wood or am i stuck with splitting the boat the paint is not very good any way so looks is not a matter to me as long as it will work.also would you go back with the wood or seacast.

Welcome to iboats.

Rotted transom just may be the tip of the iceberg. You really should investigate to see if the stringers are in good shape. Yes, you can cut the splashwell off however if the stringers are shot it is best to spilt the cap from the hull and do it all the right way.

ok guys i cut the splash well out and the transom is totally rotten but averything els looks very good,now i have been cutting out the old wood with a saw and pry bars and whatever it takes but still got a lot to get out is ther a better way and should i use the seacast repair or go with wood.

Welcome there Johnson !!!

have you read about taking a core sample on the stringers ?? I really would hate to see you do the transom and have to go back and do the stringers here naxt year !!! and then there is the thought of you being safe out there !!!
