Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

million dollar ? do those guys who run in the parade of lights during Christmas winterize at all? I have never been there to see it but this yr im gonna try to go.
whats better calville or boulder? I will be in my suv to see it from shore unless theres a good spot at marina.

I was going to put lights on my boat as it sits on side of house but then I realized it would look funny with the cover on,maybe the trailer I thought even lol.

I have another idea!! Like when the government was shut down and boulder boats cruised the strip to protest, how about we light up our boats and do the same for Christmas. not to protest, but to have a good old time! hello power inverters.gonna need some help with that though. I can imagine a Christmas tree on my sun deck standing tall and bright with all the trimmings.I think we would make news easy.Just like were all so friendly at the lake and all we will show vegas the same.

i think boulder used to have more boats

most of the boats in the parade of light come out of the marina. unless your boat is on a hydro lift, not to much of freezing danger.especially every thing below the water line. never drained the 230 unless i took it out of the marina. the 310 was on a lift, so if i didn't get it drained, made sure it was in the water.

never had one freeze on mead or Powell when moored on the water..did have the shower on the 310 freeze once in a nasty storm on powell. as soon as i turned on the heat and opened the hatch to inner wall between the head and hull it thawed right out,

have always watched lights from the dock or boat so can't recommend a place on the shore.. maybe the tourist over look parking lot up on top of the mountain over looking horse power cove???? would be a ways, but what a view

they canceled the parade... not sure if they rescheduled it. It was pretty nasty the night it was originally scheduled

Yeah... It was COOOOLD...

I went out fishing Friday night/Saturday morning down at Willow Beach, low 30's maybe into the high 20's. It wasn't bad with 4-5 layers of clothing, until the un-forecasted 20-30MPH winds started blowing up the river. :faint2: If it wasn't a weed-fest out there I might have stayed and toughed it out, but I wasn't going to freeze my butt off dragging around a ball of weeds trying to catch a fish.

I'm surprised u chose willow, I'm actually wondering what's going to end up happening down there with the trout die off. I'm thinking the striper and cats may leave the area by the time things get back to what they used to be. Sucks really, specially since the have been puting so much money into that place.

Yeah, me too... The weed situation down there has made trolling tough and last Saturday was the worst I've seen. I was out the day after they dumped the hatchery and it was dead, kind of like last Saturday. I bet the stripers and birds are going to clear out the trout within a month, then be hungry again,,, with nothing to stick around for. Nothing except for the razorback suckers that will be on the menu...

I've never seen it that cold at Willow and I've fished it for 15-20 years. It wasn't the temps, it was the wind... 30* temps plus 30 MPH winds = 14* wind chill factor :dizzy:

12vman,do you think your friends who won it can give us a few numbers about how many lights and what it took to make it happen?

The river will still be there, but it's going to change the dynamic of Willow Beach. They just dumped $20 million into rebuilding the place, but now they are not going sustain one of the main reasons people go down there, fishing. The hatchery was built back in the 50's as a fish mitigation hatchery, for the express purpose of raising rainbow trout. Now the only thing that's going to be raised at the hatchery is endangered species, razor back suckers, bonytail chub, frogs. Unless they do something to get the trout section of the hatchery running again, and keep the fishermen visiting that area, it's not going to be a pretty picture for Willow's marina/store.
