I am pulling my boat this week, I only use my trailer twice a year, once in/ once out, is it worth recarpeting my bunks? Or can I just get small pieces to wrap around existing carpet where it's torn, I store in heated shop

I guess it can depend on the kind of person you are. I was in the same "boat" with my pontoon trailer.
Some of the bunks were ragged, mainly due to the age (rotting) of the carpet, so I re-did all of them. But, I could have let it go, it wasn't hurting the pontoon any...
I don't let things get ragged.
It's not gonna hurt the boat

Make sure the wood under the carpet is still good.
Mine is nearly 20 years old and I had to replace the wood for all four bunks.
Two were really bad, basically just fell apart from rot after I removed the carpet. The only thing holding them together was the carpet.

Funny thing is that all the carpet was reusable in my case.

If that's a steel frame trailer and the carpet is against the supports consider cutting the new carpet so wet carpet isn't laying against the steel. As you can see mine were getting a good amount of rust/rot. I painted Chassis Saver on them.September run 2017 003.JPG
