bumble bee rebuild

i have a 87 v154 bumble bee that i am rebuilding i got the boat for dirt cheap with a running 90 hp v4 evinrude. i bought the boat as a winter project. i have began work on it i have it in 2 pieces as of now. here is my list of need to do. 1 replace the transom i havent made up my mind yet on whether or not if im going to use a ceramic core like nida-bond or if im going to use marine grade plywood for the transom. 2 replace the rotted stringers. 3 replace the wet foam. heres what ive done so far. 1 removed top cap.2 removed rotted floor.3 removed wet foam. i have a lot to do but its coming along.

Welcome to iBoats!!! With a First Mate like that one, you'll be done in no time!!!!:clap2: Make sure and wear a mask during the demo phase the dust and mold can be pretty nasty. A full cover Tyvek suit comes in pretty handy too. I think you'll find this pretty informative...

thanks its coming along well im just about ready to remove the inner transom skin i do have a mask that i have been using i have not gotten a tyvek suite yet but i do plan to

thanks as of now im on hold until i get a new extension cord im enjoying the rebuild. i was originally planned to use composites in the rebuild but thats no longer an option so im going to rebuild with marine grade plywood. i figure if it lasted 28 years i can easily get that out of it again

i got some more work done on the bee today i have a majority of the transom core removed i also found the point of water intrusion the motor bolts were not sealed and the through transom fittings were not sealed

Oh yes the rotted transom. Funny how every rotted transom look the same. Water is the most dangerous chemical known to man. 88, you don't have to attach your pictures like you are doing. You can select them from your computer and post them as pictures instead of attachments. Then we can see them without clicking on them. JMHO!

ok guys ive been away for a while and i apologize.i had a accident at work that resulted in damage to my lower back so i havent been very busy. i did however make alot of progress on the bee before the accident. i have gutted the boats transom minus some light sanding. i have removed the rotten stringers. i have made a rough cut of the stringers and transom. ive also cleaned all the gunk out of the boat. i have also rewired the gauges i have come to the conclusion i hate wiring.

Ha 88evinrude, sorry to hear about your back accident. So many times real life takes first place over our projects and puts them on hold. We all know about that. But glad you are doing better now and still working the boat.

I know it looks overwhelming some times. But believe me, once you get everything removed and the hull grinded out in prep for the new stringers, transom and floor, it starts to look a lot better and certainly doable. I have to say I like your boat and will be watching this project to completion. If you don't mind. :noidea:

thanks. i will be doing more work on it now and i will be taking more pictures. i am really enjoying working on the boat and i have learned so much from working on the boat and reading about other builds.

well the weather has turned off cold on me so i havent been progressing like i would like to. i have been doing more work on removing the wood. id like to be further along but ce la vie. the main thing is that i am enjoying the job.

Yea we are in the 20's in the morning and today only expected to get to 40's. Same for tomorrow. So I guess I go out and fire up the kerosene heater again. It does take a while to get the shop up to temps to be able to mix poly. The shop is 24 X 36 and insulated, but still takes a while. :smile:

well the snow has melted and the sun is out so i got out to the boat today. i did some more cutting on the rotten wood and have got the composite marked for cutting but before i cut it i need a few more cut off wheels.
