Re: Bullies on the water

^^^I didn't mean for the elderly couple and there son to not defend themselves...
I'm all for that, but they didn't.
And for someone else to step in to "correct" the bullies other than the law would make them the same as the bullies for trying to enforce the laws themselves.

The bullies saw idiots blocking the channel. The bullies try enforcing a law that is not up to them to enforce and in turn become the idiots. Now if you don't like what they did and you decide to take action yourself to correct the bullies behavior, what does that make you???

My point is adding more wrong does not make right!

I think this is a perfect case for showing an idiot/idiot's acting aggressivly towards you or others your firearm. It tells them to leave NOW, it's justified in my book. I think a shot into the water would have gotten the point accross, if just holding it in veiw and wiping the gun w a rag didn't work.

Re: Bullies on the water

I, for one, think it's time to handle these type situations like men and bust someone in the mouth. No need for weaponary, just good old fashioned, 5 knuckles to the lip-type justice. Anyone that would pick on a 78 yr old man AND a 72 yr old woman is a coward, plain and simple. While I'm not sure that the "death penalty" should be involved, a good ole butt whuppin' wouldn't hurt 'em one bit.

And, if they're in their 20s, then YouTube it for the world to see and for posterity.

That would be about impossible w/o boarding someones boat uninvited, and 4 to 2 odds, plus the age difference would make it a bad choice. The great equilizer/neutralizer would more than even those odds though and probably safely diffuse/end the situation quickly if done correctly. It also might possibly deter the bullies from this type of behavior in the future or thinking twice before being bullies again on the water.

That is exactly what I would do......shoot his boat first and if the agression continued the bully would be next. 78 year old man with witnesses, it would be an open and shut case.

I guess the people that want to shoot the boat and show the bullies their firearm think they're the only ones carry firearms? You don't "show" someone your gun, if you're going to pull it you have to pull the trigger too.

Those bullies could have bigger firearms and be faster on the draw than you may think and having guns is probably one of the reasons they do/did what they do. Sure you may pop 1, 2, 3, or all 4... but you're probably going to get popped too, and it's not worth that for me.

So are you saying that you will just sit there and let him spit on you and not be afraid he may do more than that to you or your family? Remember, you are on the water with nowhere to run or hide. I bet after that old man cleaned out his underwear his first thought was to pack heat on his next trip.

I always have a camera and cell phone in my boat, I would get their registration #'s in a pic and call 911.

I am not a judge/jury/executioner all rolled into one.

No where to run and hide also applies to getting into a gunfight on the water too.

Re: Bullies on the water

I never condoned pointing a gun at anybody and I respect your opinion as always Jigngrub; but I have had the displeasure of "showing" my gun to folks, all but once it was more than 1 that ment to rob or otherwise do me harm 4 times while working as a cable tv guy in some pretty bad neighborhoods years ago, usually on fri. or sat. afternoons/evenings. I never pointed my gun at anyone, I just made it visible from the cab of my truck and only had to speak to them 1 time. 2 times I just put it on the dashboard while shuffling papers or acting like I was looking for something in my console, and continued to finish my paperwork w/o distractions. A large Ruger Blackhawk is easy to see from a distance and this show of force worked well for me each time. I quit the job because of I and others safety. A threat is a threat and protecting/defending yourself is natural and instinctual to me. That's why I avoid confrontation at all cost, but if it is unavoidable otherwise, I will improvise.

Re: Bullies on the water

You have to add up the odds:

4 guys in 2 boats that're bigger and faster than your, they may or may not be armed... but should be considered armed if they're acting that brave.

You are with your Mom and Dad in a smaller and slower boat, is now the time to be showing someone your weapon?

It may sound bad to some of y'all, but I would do whatever it took to protect my Mom and Dad... and displaying a weapon would not be an option. Instead I would cower down and apologize to the wrong doers to make them go away and then try to get the numbers off of their boat(s) and call the police.

Re: Bullies on the water

alot of people in my area carry guns and its not for protection against people but more protection against the wildlife. just the fact that you know most people have guns especially the older ones tend to stop you from being a arse in the first place. pointing a gun is always going to lead to a ugly situation but thankfully the area i live in always has cops on site. i think they give them free rental homes at parks and boat slips to stop situations from getting out of control. maybe im lucky but ive never meet a bad boater. people help each other at the ramps and it seems like no one is in a hurry. the bb group can be a little rude as they like there space and to be honest it can be a pain if you catch a fish and the next min you are in the middle of a group of boats but you kinda learn to live with that and as soon as they see someone else catch something there off so no big deal.

Re: Bullies on the water

From the OP I imagine swamping or sinking of the boat was the plan. When that did'nt happen they returned to make sure their point was made. I wonder if they would have come back by at all if the boat flipped or sank??? Jigngrub, if you do make it down there to try to get pics or video of the perps i might come along.........I'll back you up if somebody REALLY does'nt want their boats picture taken. :D

Nope. Now's the time to get their reg #'s, get their addresses since the reg #'s are public. Hunt them down 1 by 1, give them the business end of a Louisville Slugger, or a pillowcase full of Master Locks!

Re: Bullies on the water

I will probably get flamed for saying this but I always have a 38 on board as I can conceal carry. ( shore lunch you never know what is on an island in the mississippi or on shore in the northwoods) I would have had to pull the weapon and possibly use it when they turn around and came back. I would have considered that a severe threat and would probably fired a warning shot first then disabled there boat and called the police.these people deserve no mercy for threatening an elderly couple. I would not have shot them, but their engine would have been toast. I am ex military and a very good shot as well.

I totally agree and that is the same way I would react. Where I live carrying a gun is more common then not having a gun.....bullies are very rare around here.

Story is very one sided. As they always say, there are three sides to every story. Dont park in the channel is a pretty good start to solve issues like this from happening in the future.

I will never understand this mentality of blaming the victim. Even if they were wrong to be there it does NOT justify the bullies behavior.
