yeah, i think i can get away with just the stainless roller. i was thinking i NEEDED the wood under it but after seeing Teds pictures i guess not. that would be perfect and much easier (probably look better too)

Depending on how thick the deck is, you might need to add something under it to stiffen it up a bit

Sure would so long has its flush with the underside. Reason I say this is in most cases its not 100% flat, sort of a curve. I'm sure you can work it out

should be somewhat flat on that front section. there is a flat spot in front of the anchor locker about 12"x18". i would think it would be pretty flat underneath that. if not i can use large washers as shims to even it out

Placing a 1 inch diameter washer in an area displaces the load over a 1 inch circle. So the 1 inch spot will not be ripped out easier then a 1/2 inch spot. This is not the same if the entire area is covered by the entire plate. The plate can be form fitted or another item can be trimmed to fill in voids throughout, As an example

yeah, that visual helps to illustrate that.

so if i go that route then i need to figure out a new locker hatch...lol. talked to the PO tonight and he said the original was teak with plywood under it and the plywood rotted. i thought the 1986 sundancers had a fiberglass hatch with a plywood core? anyway, i think he may have meant fiberglass but i will need to replace the current one with something.
