Hey folks,

So I am restoring a 1972 StarCraft Chieftain 20ft. I have decided to strip down all of the paint due to unknown paint use on the boat. I am using a angle grinder and rust stripping disks as seen in the pictures. So paint technique and feedback. My plan of attack is the following:

1. Strip existing paint down to aluminum.
2. Repair the hull with marine epoxy (if any small damages)
3. Fill in hole on topside with either rivets or bondo then smooth out
4. Spray InterProtect 2002e on entire boat
5. Spray Pre-Kote on top of InterProtect coat
6. [Apply a bottom paint] to below water areas especially areas where boat sits on bunks
7. Spray Brightside to above waterline areas

That is the plan. I understand that there is chemical vs mechanical bond for the primer coat. Is using InterProtect suitable on bare aluminum as it is understood this is a mechanical bond? I want to ensure that I am doing this right the first time so any feedback on the above plan of approach? Also the [Apply a bottom paint]. Any feedback on a paint manufacturer or recommended paint to use for the bottom paint? I desirably want to apply a white paint, that is not an ablative and will resist abrasion if I beach the craft on the lake.

etch prime bare surfaces first then you can put whatever paint you want over it.
