Re: Boat Names

I'm taking a 1984 Sea Ray bowrider named "Wild Turkey" for a sea trial later this week. Hopefully all will go well, and I'll officially be a boat owner!

I'm not a fan of the name, and have been constantly racking my brain for a good new name. While out to dinner with a couple buddies, one noticed a girl passing by and said (with a mouthful of food) what sounded to my one-track mind to be "Sea Has Big Buoys"

Not sure if I'd always want to be known as that though

Re: Boat Names

New boat name is in signature. Meaning should be obvious, but it is related to our goal of meeting our saviour some day!!

Re: Boat Names

I was going to name her INJUN because that's what my Dad called me when we (brother & I) were young (we ran around like wild indians). Actually, it began as 'INDIAN', but when spoken on the air it sounded like 'in the end', which if you use your imagination, dosen't sound too cool. It was just a way of dedication since he passed a few years back.

Instead, I'll keep the name that I'm known as; 4REEL, on my last 3 boats.

Re: Boat Names

As I was filling out the paper work for a new registration for an old boat I am bringing back to life, I came to the question of boat name. It is a government requirement in Germany to name your boat. I thought about it for a moment and decided "This Side Up" was appropriate for a boat with questionable stability properties, or would that be capsizeability.

Don't ask why it has questionable stability properties. I will post photos when I finish, if I survive it's maiden voyage, and you can judge for yourself.

They didn't find it very funny, but I said it was a tradition in my family to name our boats "This Side Up".

In Germany the government has a list of approved child names, and I think they must have one for boats also. You have to have a real good reason to get them to let you name your child a name that is not a common German name and on their list. Tradition is one reason people use to name their children non-listed names, and it may or may not work for my boat. I am still waiting for the paperwork to come back.

I thought about "Taxi Vasion" but the U.S. IRS  has offices in Frankfurt and I didn't want to give them any ideas.

Re: Boat Names

I have named my project (an 89 Bayliner Capri)

I was given the boat because the previous owner had caught it on fire (minor fire) and toasted some of the wiring. then it sat out in the weather and the deck now needs repair. but it became mine because of the fire .

So I have named it Gift Of Prometheus. anyone who knows greek mythology will understand.

LAke Erie, Put In Bay(South Bass Island), I saw a boat named, "Offshore Driller." I still laugh when I think about it. Full of mid 20's kids looking to get lucky.

Re: Boat Names

I want to name my boat "Free Beer" because if I have to call for help, who wouldn't want to get Free Beer? Or better yet, if the Coast Guard spends all night looking for Free Beer, how funny would the news headlines be?

It's funny but I don't think that's setting the best example for my young daughter so I'll have to settle for something responsible (and potentially cliche).
