Not much luck. Couldn't find anyone to watch the kids this weekend so we ended up skipping our tournament. Ended up spending the weekend with the in-laws. My wife tells me I have not been in a good mood. I belive her.

Fished the IBF Invitational yesterday on the Ohio River, air temp was near 100, it was like being in a microwave. I think some of my organs are medium rare to medium. For those that don't know, the Ohio river has a 12" limit, there are kazillion of largemouth, smallmouth, and kentucky. You can catch a bunch of them but 12" and above is hard to come by. Four, five, six pounder do exist but as rare as big foot sighting. Every once in a while you'll hear one being caught. Remember the 2005 BASS classic in Pittsburg? Anyway, that is the background info. Winner had 4 fish that weight 5 something, I got one largemouth weight 2.46lbs and took big bass and a nice check. YEAAH ME! I caught him on a 3" tube (roadkill/shaphire, tip of tail dipped in Spike-It garlic chartreuse) This fish was in an off the beaten path area, a little feeder creek that was barely big enough for me turn my boat around in with the trolling motor. Also caught a catfish in another similar feeder creek that got my heart pounding, I thought I got a giant.

Fished last Thursday for a 3 hour tournament. 44 boats..

We ended up winning the darn thing with 3 fish weighing 7 lbs 8.5 oz.... Caught all three fish on a worm in cover/grass within the first hour. This fish were really turned on due to a cold front/storm approaching.

But just after that first hour the storm hit, and we got caught in some of the worst conditions I have ever seen. 5 foot waves, heavy, heavy rain and lightning. Even a little hail. But we made it back alive! Didn't catch a fish after the start or during the storm, About 80% of the boats came back in about 30min early due to another heavy round of lightning approaching.

We beat out second place by just over a pound.

Fished again Sunday in a pro-am. Didn't catch a keeper fish!!! Hot,Hot,Hot sunny day... Only caught 4 shorts.
Feast or famine I guess....

Tough day on Greenwood Lake NJ/NY. Only two or three limits and a bunch of goose eggs. My partner got a limit, 8+ pounds. Just one fish for me. Fished texas rigged senko's and frogs all day in the skinny stuff.

Fished Thursday nighter again,

Came in second... Hot, hot day again... fished brush piles near channels all evening... Didn't have a fish for the first two hours, then I caught two on consecutive casts on the same tree.... 6 lbs 2 oz total.... Came in second out of 33 boats.... Winners caught 3 fish, two 5 pounders but one was dead (which they don't weigh on this circuit), ended up with 8.5 lbs....

It's getting tougher with the heat.....

Great job Ron, feels good don`t it??????????

It`s great when ya set the hook on a big fish. Usually feels like you`re hung up so ya wait for it to move, then it`s oh ya, it`s a good un!!!!!!!!!!8)

Fish Senko's all day Saturday and also threw some frogs on scum/lilly pads. Got three fish in the first three hours on the Senko's, then the bite just stopped. I should have swithched up to a different bait mid day, but I didn't. Ended up with 3 fish at 5 lbs. A limit at 12 lbs won it.

Thats a big smallie. You're doing better than me this year. Last tournament I caught 10 largemouth but only weighed in two. They were three pounds combined. I had two more that were a 1/4" and an 1/8" short. I found out after the tournament that I probably could have kept them and weighed them in. I guess pinch the tails a little when they measure. Oh well, I wouldn't have placed anyway. 8 lbs took third place.

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

I can`t believe it, I actually won the first little get together tournament I have fished in a long time!

I`m a member of a little NW bass fishing forum, and several members got together this Saturday for a small tournament, there were only five boats, but I won it on a lake I hadn`t fished for over 20 years with three fish that weighed 7#`s, Only caught six fish all day. I got the big fish pot of $50.00 for a 3#9oz fish so that helped with the gas. Fishing was grueling and hot, they were scattered all over so there was no pattern other than fish your AZZ off! I was the oldest guy there.

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

I did another tourney yesterday as a co-angler. Being a co-angler has its good points and bad. I got a super nice guy yesterday with an awesome brand new Stratos. But he had his mind made up we were going after smallies, and he had his mind made up where we were going to fish, and he wouldn't budge. Two thirds of the way through the day I started making suggestions for largemouth spots, but he just wasn’t interested. I got three short’s, he ended up with one smallie at just 12 inches to weigh in. I had a good time, and I'm grateful for the time spent on the guys boat, but man it was a frustrating day.

Man thats rough!we fish half a day each person in tourneys like that.unless you have an agreement.
I fished today in a club tourney talking about sucking i had 1 spot that weighed 1lb and 4 non-keeprers lost a good fish on a jig at the boat still dont what happened there because i poured the coal to it when i set the hook.1st place was 11lbs.

Re: Bass Tournament Results-Good or Bad!!!!

Losing that big fish hurts even worse when your having a slow day.

The boat owners are supposed to split time when it comes to picking the spots but it rarely happens. It's just the price you pay for using someone elses boat and learning their spots. It's still a good deal.

8-13 for two fish is pretty darn good. Too bad you couldn't have put a few more in the livewell.
