Fished a small club tourny,caught 4 kentuckes ended up with 4 place.caught on a ring worm and craw,should went with the spinnerbait but it was bluskys and no wind.the winner caught on them on a white spinner.

I won my club tourn. yesterday with 8lbs 14oz beat out second place by 6oz. I know Flathead gonna jumps all over this one but I was bed fishing all day long. I spend the entire practice day (Sat.) on the trolling motor looking at beds. Saw one bed with a fish on it and couldn't really tell how big he was so I decided to pitch a bait at him to see what will works. On the third pitch, I set the hook and he immediately started pulling, managed to get about 6 inches out of the water even though my rod was half way in the water and then went underneath the boat. Right then I thought, crap...I shouldn't have set the hook. He turned out to be about a 4 pounder. The next day, water was only calm first thing in the morning when there wasn't enough light to do anything so I just quickly went through the stretch of bank where a bunch of beds were with a buzz bait and then a second pass with a spinner with no luck. By then there was enough light that I could see through the water but I had to be on top of the bed to see them. I knew the wind going to pick up when the sun is up so I look for the catchable fish, those that won't move from the bed even with the boat right on top of them, and make a note of the area. This lake was so clear with an easy 10ft clarity and those beds were in about 5-7ft. The sun finally got high enough and the lake is choppy. I just blind cast into the vincinity of the bed and hopped a 3" tube thru it. Got two doing that and one in the canal where I can actually saw everything. I got back to the area where I was in the morning with an hour left to go. Fished it for a while and the big male I caught the day before still on his bed and he got a girlfriend with him too. She was a BIG momma, at least 6-7lbs. They were doing their mating dance and would not bite no matter what. For the last 30 mins of the tourn. I kept throwing everything at them but they didn't pay any attention to me. There was several times when my line jumped because they were bumping the line, my bait was right in the middle of the bed. Lesson learned, if they are twirling around on the bed, move on because you're wasting your time. I just couldn't help it, there was 10-11 lbs right in front of me.

Way to go GF!I got to catching them when they was doing that by rapidly flipping right at the fishes head my partner thought i was crazy but i got them so aggrevated theyed finaly suck it in.<br /><br /> Caught 5 barly keepers last night on a drop with a c-rig had about that many short fish,rained all day and then cleared off i thoght the fish was shallow went to the banks for an 1hr didnt get a bite.funny how fish are no money again.

Next time you are out in the rain, find a submerged weedbed on a flat somewhere if there is anything like that where you are fishing. Throw a spinnerbait of your choice and you should clean up.

Thats what i did for an hr <br /> last night had 9 keepers and lost track of the non keepers,alot of little fish culled threw to have 9 lbs got beat again because lack of a good kicker,we'll get a big one,oen of these days but 2nd getting old.

Thats what i tell my parner,but the wenesday nighters are for fun,and bragin rights,not much money involed which makes it even better.But it's amazing how many BFL and PBF people show up.

You guys are pissing me off...<br /><br />I only have time for a handful of weekend tournaments!!!!! I need a new job or something.. Because I could fish every thursday and almost every Sunday if I had the time or a partner that would commit...<br /><br />But mainly it's my work that is getting in the way... <br />You guys are lucky (Ron G).....

My work interfers in my fishing too But i fish mostly small tornys maybe in the future i can move on up there and fish some of the bigger ones.A good partner is hard to come by,i ve been fishing the wenesday nighters with the same guy for 10 years,we also fish a club tourny.<br /> Sometimes you just got to take the time luckly my work is very understanding of my fishing i am very lucky.

Ron:<br /><br />I think you fish more than I do, and I live on the lake! Just too lazy sometimes to take ten minutes to put the boat it. I mean, ya gotta load the tackle, pack a bite to eat, load the tackle, hook up the boat. OK, all of about 20 minutes. Lifes too hard!

why don't you keep packages of snack/cracker and bottles of water, and tackles in the boat at all time LD? That's what I do, I just have to restock the snacks and drinks. I clocks out of work at 3:30, drive home, change clothes, hook up the boat and be out of the driveway before 4:00.<br /><br />Ron, you should fish your state federation tournys as an angler or a co-angler(cheaper and you could learn a lots from the angler.

GF i do fish those,there alot of fun,placed 23 a couple of years ago,placed in the 40 last year i think,i didnt have a good second day,if i qualify this year i would like to go as a boater.<br /> If i didnt hear about it from the wife i would fish alot more tournys.

Yesterday afternoon hot day,no wind we had 12 keepers all 12"-13" still cant find any bigger fish caught our first limit in 30minutes then went after big fish and still ended up with small ones.all the fish was caught on a rig.

Allright,<br /><br />I'm thinking of trying something different for my next outing...<br /><br />The lake I fish is mainly a power fishing lake... Jigs, Spinnerbaits, rigs, flippin whatever, cranks occasionally, etc...<br /><br />Anyway, about two or three times a year there are a couple of tournaments that are set up by some Nebraska folks... And let me tell you, they have a history of coming on our lake and making us look like fools... Fishing with there spinning tackle and finesse style....<br /><br />Got me thinking... Different baits, different presentation, why not try it...<br /><br />I'm thinking of trying a drop shot rig that will utilize a small swimming/creature like bait that I can use around grass and wood cover (as long as the wood isn't a beaver damn, lol)... I'm thinking of setting up a rig that will have the weight at 1/4oz and the bait about 18" up that I can drag,hop,dangle, twitch along cover that we would usually rig, jig or even use spinner baits among... <br /><br />Plan to use a spinning reel with 10 pound test, on a lake that has about 1-3 ft visibility... Heavily pressured lake BTW..<br /><br />What do you guy think??? Honestly, any suggestions!

Dynomite <br /> Going to get my 5 dinks with the rig,then going to a dd22 or a 1 once jig.got try something,i could probably catch some good fish trolling but you know thats a no-no.the fish around here have a tendancy of suspeanding which makes them hard for me to catch.
