Re: Astor Florida Get Away

info i got today.

"Bob,
Yes we have the slip and campsite available. The launch is free with the
site, but the slip is $22.00 nightly and the site is $28.00 nightly. Plus
tax. If you feel our ramp is too small we own powell's campground as well
next door. We can let you launch there for free as well. I think you
will be set for either.
Thank you,
Lena"

I think my boat can sleep on the trailer at night.

WOW, they are proud of their marina, arent they? Blair Jungle Den a room is $49 per night and they dont charge you to dock your boat. Campground is like $30 I think, but again no charge to dock your boat. I wonder why they were nasty to you guys when you tried to contact them. I would think they would be more than happy to have another group come there regularly.

If you guys are just fishing Sunday, we may have to catch you next time. We will surely be on the river someplace, but trying to hook up might be difficult. Unless you wanted to meet us for lunch someplace.

Re: Astor Florida Get Away

interesting chart for St. Johns River.

ChartMilage0001.jpg

Very cool chart. I used the Monroe Harbour to gas up and put the baot in the water 2 days ago. It's right over the I4 bridge from me. I'm saving your chart!

I would love to check that place out, but my wife is really not into gators. Still I wonder how long it would take to get there in the boat 39.5 miles down stream. I'm out of town those dates so I won't be having that adventure when you all are there unfortunately.

This is getting closer. I'm bringing the boat back from Daytona just to coincide with this raft up. That's a 3 day trip in it's own, but it's a great ride except for the long boring trip thorough Jax.

Where will people be meeting up? Lake George is a big lake. I'm recommending the mouth of Silver Glen Springs.

Any better thoughts?

Hey Fireman, how long does it take to get to Lake George from Lake Monroe Harbor? Not sure if I'll be home in time for this get together, but if I am, I might take a day trip up there to say hello.

If you are in Deltona, I would recommend putting in at the 44 bridge in Deland. Ed Stone Park ramps. It will cut over an hour off your boat trip. Its about 1.5 hours from Lake Monroe to there, then another 45 minutes to an hour to the Glen.

Re: Astor Florida Get Away

we are only bringing a 15 footer, so if George gets rough we can't make it to Silver Glen.

We have been there in Jetskis. It only gets bad enough to not be on when it storms. If it storms while in the glen we usually just ride it out til its over. Or get out long before it storms. In October it might not be too bad, no afternoon storms, and not a ton of boats.

That's about right, depending on your boat and how you drive it. It's a nice ride from SR44 to the lake. minimal idle areas and beautiful "old" Florida scenery.

Hey bummer you all decided to go where I wanted to on these dates.

Oct. 23 GramFest (Gram Parsons) Gainsville

Glad to see you picked a real campground this time though not a RV lot.

Re: Astor Florida Get Away

we have decided to camp at Salt Springs, if conditons are good enough, we will run down to Silver Glen, Saturday.

http://www.recreation.gov/campgroun...ex=CampingSpot&contractCode=NRSO&parkId=73853

it is pretty rustic, most site have no electricity. i have propane and several generators if necessary.

How close can I get to the mouth of Salt Springs? I draw 4' of water. I have no problem with anchoring close and maybe running the inflatable in.
